Look at it this way, if you're young enough and are getting an implant chances are it will eventually need to be replaced. Who knows what medical advancements may bring.

Hey Edzo, It's not easy being implanted, I went through all the same issues and doubts you had about an implant but had to deal with it at 17. All I can say is that I can't imagine what life would have been like not having it now (I am 44 and about to go for my 4th replacement in a month and a half)...
