Re: Cost of implant ??

I originally elected to have implant surgery with my local uro and was insured by Cigna. The uro's office received Cigna's approval without problem. At that point I elected to change doctors believing insurance would be no problem.I arranged for the implant with Dr Kramer at University of Maryland ho...

Re: Still trying to adjust to the pump

Wolfcreek The pump relocation surgery was very similar to the original implant surgery.Same pre-op procedure, same anesthesia. I believe the risk of infection is greater in revision surgery than the original but Dr Kramer has a great track record in avoiding infection. Although he was hesitant becau...

Re: Still trying to adjust to the pump

Wolfcreek Standard charges applied. Medicare and my subliment covered the revision. Fortunately, no money out of pocket for me. Please understand,I don't believe my problem with my pump placement was in any way due to faulty surgery. My implant worked perfectly. It was more of a cosmetic issue for m...

Re: Still trying to adjust to the pump

Wolfcreek My pump was located exactly as you described yours. Although it worked fine it bothered me. It was noticeable as there was a slight bulge higher up in my scrotum. At first Dr Kramer was hesitant to do a revision because of risk reward but left the decision up to me. I elected to have the r...

Re: Insurance Excludes Penile Implant - Not Sure What to Do

Smallbutsure, You might also want to consider a Semi-Rigid implant. It will do the trick and I don't believe you will be limited by the 10 year fear of mechanical failure. Also, there is probably even less of a chance of infection occurring. You could use it until your circumstances change and then r...

Re: Zephyr implants

Very interesting thread. Wondering if any of the US high volume Uro's are considering another entry to the game.

Re: Backup Doctors

Hi Lost Sheep I believe that Dr Kramer can make all the post op arrangements. He does it as a matter of routine for all out of town patients.I would guess that the large majority of his patients are outside the Baltimore metropolitan area. I don't understand why your local VA facilities would not be...

Re: Infections

Guys,Guys,Guy, Several days ago I started this thread with the hopes that some brothers would post their experiences with infections encountered after implant. I thought that this imformation would be helpful to many even though the infection rate is very low. In the last year I have not seen very m...
