I completely understand how you could have some reservations about getting an implant when you haven't had too much exposure to it, or know of someone personally who has gotten the procedure done. I have my own frustrations with how Penile Implants often are the best solution with men who have experienced the failure of more conservative therapies, like the injections you were talking about, but they continue to remain a secret to the community due to a lack of education/marketing.
In my belief this is the result of both Primary Care Physicians and many Urologists failing to correctly educate their patients, leaving the procedure to be highly misunderstood.
You mentioned that you are uneasy about choosing the right surgeon....and my advice is to ALWAYS find a Prosthetic Urologist for your Penile Implant procedure. Only a small percentage of urologists perform Penile Implants in high volume like we do, so it's best to find a specialist to help you with such an important decision!
If you have any further questions, please always feel free to ask.
Feeling robbed

Stevareno wrote:Just had a RP last month. Although it saved my life and I am grateful, I feel more mad. I have a beautiful wife who is six yrs my junior. We had been married for 25yrs this year but it wasn't always a good time. For about twenty yrs we had mediocre sex. One reason because I had PE and as soon as it happened, it was over. Not that I wanted it to be but to wait 30 minutes for it to come back around kinda killed the mood for her. We even went a whole year without any sex at all because we both fell out of the mood for it. About 4 yrs ago I discovered the injections, this after taking Viagra which helped but then fizzled out. With the injections it opened up a whole new world for us. We were having great sex. And her attitude towards me changed also. She was so much more loving and respectful to me. I know I was finally after 20 yrs able to fill her needs.
Now come December 2016 I find out I had Prostate Cancer. Had to do the Radical Prostatectomy. Here it is now almost April and there is no signs of life in my penis. No indication that it is going to come alive. However, I can take a shot and it will get hard, it stays that way for about 10 minutes then go dead again.
I hate this. I want to get back to having sex but can't. I know it hasn't been that long since my surgery. I am just worried it isn't going to come back around. My insurance will pay for an implant but I have some reserves about that. If I know for sure it would work, I will do it but I do not know how good the surgeon who does these is. Don't want to get a botched up implant. Although he is the one who did my prostatectomy and was very good at it.
What makes it worse is the older I get, it shows. My wife however, looks hotter now than when I first met her when she was 21. She is now 48 and gets more looks than ever before.
I guess I am being a bit insecure. Just thinking now is not the time to have this problem.
Not saying she would ever leave me, she does love me. Just that I want to correct this problem and soon. I believe the great sex we had is what kept up close. Don't want to lose that.
What to do?
I know exactly how you feel. I'm 62. I haven't had prostate cancer, but back in November of last year, the injections had suddenly stopped working after 2 1/2 years of them working great. I felt robbed also? Very depressing when after each injection of increasing strength I'd have hopes it would get hard again. I would get semi hard and then try to do the deed, and I couldn't penetrate! after 6 months of this, after reading about implants here, I decided to have one. A little over two months now, and I couldn't be happier. No more having to stick a needle in my dick. I just pump it up, it's wonderful. Don't hesitate, go for the implant.

Exactly how I felt about it. That was the first time I reached out to Dr. Eid 7 years ago. He did not tell me about implants, just reminded me I would have died a slow and painful death w/o the prostatectomy. Get an implant. Wish I had known about them and had one at the same time as that damnable prostatectomy. Would have saved us from 7 years of hell.
