Nerve sparing operation work for anyone?

There is more to sex than an erect penis. How do you maintain your sexuality both for yourself and for your partner? What techniques do you use to give both of you a great, satisfying sex life? How do you explore your own body and sexuality now that the rules have changed?

Nerve sparing operation work for anyone?

Postby Asquared65 » Sat Dec 07, 2024 7:44 pm

About six years ago I was being treated for bladder cancer. Discussion with the Dr lead to a nerve sparing radical cysectomy. Which removed my bladder and prostate. Went through recovery and tried pills, shots and VED. Only with VED am I able to get an erection. Leading me to be bummed out. Went to a Urologist that suggested looking at trying to get an implant. Of course insurance said no and the Doctor really didn’t want to fight the insurance company.

Back to my question. Has nerve sparing surgery worked for anyone? For me it is a big fat No. On top of not being able to achieve an erection, because of the operation I can no longer produce semen. Double bummer for me.
56 nerve sparing radical cystectomy after diagnosis of Bladder cancer survivor, 2 yr plus. Pills and trimix did not work, VED Plus cialis, working for now. Interested in others experiences in getting implants.

I believe I've seen posts on here where an RP patient claimed to have regained full function. Not in my case however. Of course the guys that regain full function aren't as likely to visit this site.
R.R.P 2011 Mayo Jacksonville, Dr. M. Wehle. Not nerve sparing. C in margins. Radiation 2023, V.E.D, Viagra and PGE-1 (80mcg/ml) injections @ 8 - 14 units. Originally Edex20, then compounded PGE due to cost. Inject. 12 yrs. It works. Treasure coast of FL.

Nerve sparing surgery didn't work for me. After RP I was left with no natural erection, incontinence and anorgasmia. I use Bimix not Trimix to get an erection now. I suspect that offering that type of surgery might be just a sales pitch so that fellas who have cancer will not balk at saving their own lives by going through with the surgery.

But then I'm pessimistic by nature.

Sales pitch? That may be true.
Nerve sparing did not work for me either. I suspect it does not work for most of us. The bright side? I’m still alive.

It is nearly two years ago I had my prostate removed and I have not regained my ability for a natural erection. I have done everything that my doctor has requested. Taking Sildenafil every night. Using the Vacuum Device on a regular basis. I have also tried several other penile rehabilitation procedures that he suggested as well as suggestions from other medical organizations (hospitals, clinics, ED specialists, etc.) that deal ED.

The majority of medical experts dealing with prostate cancer use the common statistics of either 40% to 50% or 70% to 80% of men regaining their sexual function within a year after prostate removal. My doctor said that there was a very good chance I would regain my ability to obtain a natural erection between one and two years.

I believe that they are not being truthful.

Thank goodness for TriMix !
Age 70. RP March 2023. Sildenafil 50mg. Tri-Mix 20/30/2 @ 30 units. VED with Vacurect. Penile Rehab Program including, Vacuum Therapy, stretching, and routine masturbation. No natural erections yet. Married 38 years. Solo sex only.

I think Bdoink is right on target. If it works they are probably not here on this site. I Listen to a husband/wife podcast where he (early 60s male) had this operation two years ago and he is just now regaining erectile (beginning stages, but not yet adequate for penetration).

Also check this link to a list of discussions about this on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProstateCancer ... ance&t=all
Birth Year 1959, Happily married to wife since 1987. On TRT since age 45, started sildenafil at age 48. Had lifesaving abdominal surgery at 61 with lost erectile function following surgery. Started trimix in January 2023 at age 63.

Hi all,

Interesting timing on this post.

As I’ve mentioned in the past, my Uro/surgeon told me that the nerves are so small, that he didn’t know if he spared my nerves during my RP 16 months ago. He said I will know if he did if I get an erection within two years after my surgery. Ugh! Does not give me much confidence in his ability or knowledge.

I also recently posted that I’ve always been able to get chubby, but just not quite hard enough for penetration without using VED or injections until about 2 weeks ago. I got real chubby and could tell it was stiffer than before, so I popped on a cheap cock ring and jumped on my wife and it stayed stiff until I finished.

I thought maybe I turned the corner and would be able to repeat the experience, but unfortunately I have not.

I tried Cialis several times since my RP with no success, so I thought I’d give it another try to see it will now help. I know Cialis has to build up in your system over several days, so I started taking it again. Last night I barely slept at all. Like most people at my age, sleeping can be a struggle, but last night was different, in my mind due to taking the drug.

Question- those that took Cialis long term, did anyone have this side effect of sleep disruption? Will it go away after a few days?

Thanks,
RJ

My 2¢ on this is there are many medicines that can cause sleep issues. After a healthy round of steroids last year, I developed sleep apnea. One doc blamed it on the meds, one doc related it to having COVID four months prior plus the steroids.
In many cases after discontinuing a med and it filters out of the system things return to pre-med mode. Hope you get back to normal sleep times because lack of sleep can lead to more problems.
