Medicare covered mine at Rockwood in Spokane Washington. Mine hurt and a lot of swelling and major bruising. Looked like he did it with a hand axe and a claw hammer. LOL Ice is your friend. Just don't over do. See oldbeek's post. Got past it ok and it gets hard. Message me if you want.

Hi, tigerboy, I have been under the impression that Medicare doesn't provide this kind of coverage. So, I can see Medicare covered it, but did you have to jump through lots of hoops and loops to get it done? Anyone else?

Medicare does cover it. No problem. I was actually very surprised to learn that my very large state group insurance plan did not cover it. I will add that I got a regular medicare supplement plan that is national. I don't know how those "advantage" plans work for something like this. It is my understanding that they operate like an HMO or some such, so you might have a more local network of providers and operate under different rules outside of that network. So, I could see where you could be in a network and be very limited as to which surgeon you could use. Or even not have a surgeon on your network, although you would think that you could go outside of the network in that case. In any event, if you went outside of your supplement's network the most you would be on the hook for would be the 20% co-insurance that the medicare supplement plan would normally take care of. Medicare B would still take care of their 80% regardless of what supplement you had.

Implant Surgery


My implant surgery cost right at $70,000! Medicare paid all but $1408.00. My supplement paid the rest of my balance. I did not have to pay anything out of pocket. Everyone responds differently to this surgery. I did not experience any pain at all. I kept waiting for all hell to break loose with regard to pain but it never did happen. I took some Tylenol just in case pain started. It’s hard to explain surgery with no pain. I even ask my surgeon how this was possible and his response was everyone responds differently! I could not have ask for a better experience or outcome. I just had to heal for six weeks to be cleared for sex. I think I could have had sex after first two or three weeks but I wanted to do what my doctor ask me to do in case I had some complication. The waiting for sex I think was most difficult of all for me. I had a friend who had the surgery about same time I did and his experience was very close to mine. No pain or complications. So glad I had the surgery. I used trimix prior to implant surgery. No more needles or injections. Feel free to ask me anything you would like. I enjoy helping guys contemplating implant surgery.

I originally posted under the guidelines section and saw that it was buried at the end of 12 pages. Saw that others posted with new subject, so here is my original post.

New to the board, although I lurked a time or two in the past. I pulled the trigger and got the IPP on 6-12-20. I am 65 and been fighting the issue for about 20 years. Viagra was effective for a while but then it's benefit waned along with giving me migraine headaches after use about 50% of the time. I then did injections for about 10 years with increasing resistance over time with my last effective (50-75% of the time) dose being an entire syringe of super trimix. Because of the high dose and leakage issue (my problem from the beginning) it became the same as Viagra with the headaches occurring about 50% of the time. Also, the erection itself was only effective about 75% of the time. I could see where this was going, so began working toward IPP surgery. Turned 65 last August and got on medicare (off of work insurance) in May so finally had the surgery. I have the Coloplast Titan. Not the One Touch, but the older style pump. 20 CM cylinders with 1 CM RTEs and the 125 CL reservoir filled to 90. I'm on day 8 and I feel that I am doing very well. I was black and blue very swollen initially, but already look pretty normal with scrotum back to normal size and very easily feeling the landmarks on the pump without pain. Well, that's my story. I'll be around.

As an extension to the question, did Medicare pay for the trimix and other "solutions" before the implants? Doctors here in Dallas rarely take it.

My Medicare supplement is Tricare for Life (military retiree).

No hoops and loops. I did have the long history of injections, etc., but the doc who did it for me just saw me and went over my history and said let me know when you're ready. I think Medicare and the insurers are pretty much operating under the assumption that nobody has this done unless they need to. They go by what the doc says pretty much. Maybe if you are 30 and it's group insurance paying they may ask for info. I don't really know.
