Greetings! I am a married, healthy 54 year year old suffering from Peyroines Disease. I am still able to achieve and maintain erections but they are very deformed and uncomfortable. Sex is still possible but painful for days afterward. I have several areas of very hard plaque that are very sharp and almost bone like in some areas. Even in a flaccid state I experience pain or discomfort 24/7. I have been told by a urologist at The Mayo Clinic that grafting and an implant may be the best and only hope to having a somewhat normal erection again. I am about 6 months into the 1 year he advised me to wait before making the decision but I don't think waiting much longer is going to wise. My condition is not showing any signs of improving and seems to be getting worse. It's a very fragile situation and constantly weighs on my mind.I found this site doing random internet searches and it looks like there allot of very knowledgable and experienced men here. I'm here to get educated as I have some tough decisions to make. I thank you in advance for sharing your experience with me and helping me make these life changing decisions.

I was told that grafting alone usually doesn't work because the materials are imperfect and usually leak. That's why my doctor recommended an implant with the grafts. I have many questions but here are a few to get started:

How do I know if I have the right surgeon? The Mayo Clinic is world re known, is that alone enough to trust?
If I have the surgery how long should I expect to be laid up? Will I be bed ridden for awhile? How long for example will it be before I could continue working out, lifting weights, running.... How much time would I miss from work (an office job)?
Can I tell people who don't need to know the details I'm having surgery to repair a hernia? Is that a realistic alibi?
Is there allot of pain involved?
Does the implant eventually become "one with you" in that you don't even realize it's there unless you need it?
Are they visible at the beach or pool? I know it's inside your body but does it show?
The thought of having a pump in my scrotum floating around with my testicles sounds intimidating, is it an issue at all?

I'm sure I'll be able to answer many or all these questions once I have chance to look over the site good, but that gives you an idea of where my mind is at. Thanks again for your help!

In your condition (severe scar tissue) I would not consider an Implant without the "Penile grafts"

I'm sure if you get the surgery at the Mayo Clinic you should be fine ...

Depending on your job ... depends on when you can go back to work ... everyone heals different. I was back in the gym in 2 weeks, and in the pool in 3 weeks.

Sure the "hernia" excuse should suffice ... as for the pain after? I only took one pain pill the next day, then just took Ibuprofen after that. Again everyone is different in handling pain and discomfort.

No the Implant is not really visible in loose trunks ... a speedo might get you some looks (lol) as for the pump ball, it doesn't really bother you in your day-to-day.

Thank you for the response Bionic! I found a few posts from some fellow Minnesota guys and a couple of surgeon names, one from The Mayo Clinic, Dr. Ajay Nehra so the site is paying off for me! Your experiences are just as valuable, or more so, than anything I get from the doctors!
