I discovered something about FrankTalk in the pages of PCRI's "Insight." Took a look at your web site and thought that I would like to be in the conversation. I am 78 and married. After repeated efforts on my part to get help with ED, I got a referral for a duplex Doppler ultrasound scanning of my penis in 1998. The post operative diagnosis was venous leakage. As the FDA approved the drugs (Viagra, etc.) for ED, I tried all three. Helpful for awhile.
In time, it became more and more difficult for me to retain an erection long enough to satisfy either my wife or myself in intercourse. Then impossible. Masturbation also became difficult. I became and still am one unhappy camper. About a year ago, we moved and I had to find new doctors. The new urologist used a pelvic ultrasonograph to clear up the question as to whether or not I have any prostate cancer. Five prostate biopsies by another urologist could not explain my elevated free and total PSA scores.
I thought now is the time to bring up the subject of my ED. That brought a suggestion that I have rods implanted and a mention of another urologist. At my age and with other medical issues, I will not undertake any elective surgery. So where am I now?
My hope is that the mention of the term "penile rehabilitation" by users of FrankTalk might lead to an answer. I am still getting to know my doctors. I believe that one has to be careful not to get too far ahead of them in their thinking. It take time to develop a therapeutic relationship with a doctor. I am now planning to bring up the subject again in office visits later this fall. I need to know more about penile rehabilitation before I do that. Help, please.

Amerigo:
Welcome, this is a good place. I am here because of PCa surgery.. while you deal with a higher PSA and are OK I was 2.8 but had 2 nasty tumors. Robotic surgery required. Can not imagine 5 biopsies.
Penile rehab may have limited outcomes for you if you do have venous leakage. It will probably involve pills and pump and perhaps injections. I am not medical but agree you should discuss with your doc.
While you do not wish additional surgery, please check Hockey posts under implants as he has just had, on an out-patient basis- rods implanted. He is still recovering but is happy with his decision and had a number of medical co-morbidities which had to be considered in addressing his ED issues.
Agree doctors have to be adjusted to and you are wise to consider and learn as you go. Please check in with the chat room and ask away. It is free-form and can be bawdy at times but it is focused and encouraging by guys who also face similar issues.
Again, welcome.
Regards,
Dick

Hello regain -is-the-aim,
Thanks for the reply. I read what you said about considering rods, but my fear is more that I can overcome. I hope that a review of my medications scheduled for November will result in my having to take less of two medications that can diminish sexual drive. I also intend to lean more on my urologist to be a bit more helpful. I am familiar with the data on sexual performance among older U.S. males. I am not being unrealistic. I have to get my doctors to get on board that idea.
One's morale about al this is certainly a factor. I have a sense of humor. I see the funny side of life. But this problem weighs heavily on me. Even masturbation is an effort. Would welcome any advice from any of the members.

I too am not so sure about implants either. Try your meds with a ring that sometimes works for me. Also the pump may be a good way to go. With both you have to "plan when and where " but may they might work. Injections also may help but if you have leakage a ring will be needed. Good Luck

I was implanted 2 weeks ago today. I am telling the truth to you both. I have had a toothache that hurt or caused me more pain. It is truly amazing to have a hard on 24/7.
I have the malleable semi-ridged rods. My wife is impressed with both the length as well as the girth. Part of that may be the fact that she hasn't seen it that way for several years. I must wait a few more weeks to use it for something besides a spigot. My dear wife has marked the date on a calendar in anticipation and is promising me a night to remember. Please if I can answer any questions or help you in any way to get over your fears or apprehension please contact me. It would be my pleasure. I have absolutely no regrets except I should have done this a long time ago. Best of luck to you both.
67 yr's young. Loving wife and 4 children 7 grandchildren. Type II diabetic for 9 years. Could retire but love my job and the people I work for. Pills, Pumps & Injections all failed. Implanted on 9/2/11. I am now "Bionic":)
