New from AZ - Post Prostectomy Surgery

Postby Spartan » Sat Jan 21, 2012 12:28 pm

A friend of mine put me on to this site -- many thanks!

Last spring I was diagnosed with PCa, and elected to have the robotic assisted surgery at the Mayo Clinic. My urologist has been superb. When going over the possible treatment options, he advised me that ED was one possible side effect, but that he would work with me in erectile rehabilitation to do what ever is necessary to get things working again.

About a month after surgery he prescribed a vacuum pump and daily doses of Cialis 5mg. When I went back for my 6 month check-up on Monday, I told him that the only erections that I had were created by the vacuum pump, otherwise no stirrings at all. With that, he recommended discontinuing the Cialis and begin injections. So, I was set up with an appointment with a PA on Thursday morning for my instruction and first injection (0.20 ml). The only thing that I can say is that stuff (trimix) works. After two hours rock hard, I took two sudafed and applied ice, and was back down in another hour. They only do penile injection instruction first thing in the morning, so that if there is a problem, it can be addressed while they are still open for office hours.

I was apprehensive about the cost and my insurance coverage for Caverject and Edex, but discovered that he prefers to prescribe their own trimix formula. When I checked with the pharmacy, I was told it would be $8.45 for 4 ml -- enough for 20 injections of 0.20 ml -- or 20 units.

The trimix will be ready to be picked up on Monday, and I'll be starting off by reducing the injection to 0.15.

Glad to be here.

I have been off the HT for one year and starting to get my libido back.Pills don't work and I do have a VED but wife doesn't like it.I will have results from latest PSA test on Monday. If I don't have to have anymore HT I will be looking for a new Urologist that understands Rehab.Mine was only interested in doing surgery.I have been following the Injection and implant post daily and I'm ready to do something.

Hello,
I considered going to Mayos for my surgery but it seemed rather straight forward and no complications so I opted to stay here in TX. I also considered MD Anderson. My Dr. used the Davinci and I was amazed how quick I have bounced back ( surgery on Jan. 2nd this year). I will be working on the penis rehab at next visit.

MrSmoker: I am also from Phoenix. Mayo is top of the line. The urology dept is in the specialty clinic, next door to the Mayo Hospital at Loop 101 and 56th St. Check their website. They understand rehab. I can recommend Dr Castle.

I have a doctor friend that I know at the gym. I told him about my surgery. He asked who did the surgery. When I told him, his response was, "He's world class... I send patients to him!"

I thought that is pretty good.
