Hello All,
I’m glad I found this board. Good to know I’m not the only one.
My situation is ‘hopefully’ temporary, but still devastating. I had my prostate removed from cancer, (robotically and nerve sparing) in Nov 2011, and am suffering through the inevitable incontinence and erectile dysfunction. The statistics indicate that within 2 years, I have a 90% chance of being back to full potency, but in the mean time, the waiting sucks
I am currently on a therapy course of daily Cialis (5mg), and daily VED therapy (without the rings, just pump and release). The theory is that the nerves just need tome to regenerate after the trauma, and that increased blood flow from the Cialis will help, and the VED will keep plaque from building up so that when I’m ready…I’m ready.
Logged on to read others’ stories, and share any tips I’ve gotten, and lend and get moral support
Good luck to everyone in this fight.
Rich

Welcome to Frank Talk tenpin. I have found this to be a great place. First because there is so much informatiion from others who were in your same situatioin, second (or maybe this should be first instead) because you can now freely voice your feelings and fears without worry. These are the only people who know my story, except my uro and my wife.

You are definately not alone. Most of us here have gone down that road. I remember the waiting, but remember you do not have to have an erection to please your partner, and you do not have to have an erection to orgasm. Think of this time as a time to practice and to become a better lover. Do not give in to the frustrations, just relax and have fun. Be confident that even if natural erections do not come back, all is not lost. This board is all about overcoming this problem. Nothing seemed to work for me and I am now at that two year point. I had an implant recently and am now thrilled with it. In many ways it is better than being 18 again, or it would be if I could get the rest of this 69 year old body to cooperate a little more. What ever happens, your life is not over. For every problem there is a solution. Use your recovery time to rehab your penis. Stimulate it in every way you can as often as you can. The more you can encourage it the less you will need to worry about shrinkage. Ask your doctor about Viagra, VED, and what ever is needed. If an implant becomes necessary, do not hesitate to go for it. Above all, be thankful for your life and have fun.

Welcome Tenpin, I'm a newbie too. This is a great place and I have no doubt we will benefit from your being here. I believe you will find encouragement and solace.
I had surgery two years ago and I just found this place mainly out of desperation and curiosity about the implant. I had given up on spontaneous erections sufficient to have penetration. I began to look for an alternative to spontaneous sexual fulfillment.
I have found so much more.
I hope you keep reading. There are experts here. Real men. People. Haven't been able to read the entire forum, but I am trying. I look forward to getting to know you along with the others.
I'm glad you treated the cancer appropriately. I hate the stuff. I'm glad you came here to open up. It takes guts, and remember "Full Metal Jacket", guts is enough.

Welcome to Frank Talk Rich.
I am also from NJ (Bergen County) and developed ED Post-Prostatectomy in February 2004.
Many men here have had success with various ED Treatment Modalities, Pills (Viagra, etc.), VED, MUSE, Injections (Trimix, etc.) ---- I recommend you read their Posts and contact them via PM or in the Chat Room --- they have a wealth of information to share with you.
The above ED Treatment Modalities did not work satisfactorily for me and I endured all the negative emotional side-effects
of ED for 3+ years post-surgery.
Finally, in December 2007, I was implanted with an IPP (Inflatable Penile Prosthesis) which completely corrected my ED and restored my sex life and emotional intimacy with my wife of 45 years.
I would recommend you also read the Posts of the other "Bionic Brothers" in our Group and chat with them.
Rich, 2 months after my ORP I started attending meetings of the USToo Prostate Cancer Support Group at
Hackensack University Medical Center and have been Co-Chairman for the past 2 years.
These meetings have been a source of great comfort to me over the past 8+ years.
If you would like --- log onto http://www.ustoo.org to check for a chapter near you.
This is a totally volunteer group which gives you a chance to speak candidly with fellow PCa Survivors.
Hope this has been of some help.
Best of luck.
Bob
