Hello - new guy here from Portland

Hey guys.

I don't know how exactly I found this site but I'm really glad I did. I'm not sure where to start so I guess I'll just tell you my story.

I'm 49, divorced a little over two years. Started using viagra at 29 in 1999 and aside from the side effects it worked like a charm. 50 mg was plenty for a night of fun. That lasted about 15 years. I always had it somewhere and sometimes would take it for no reason other than I just wanted to walk around with a boner. It made me feel virile and sexy. My wife at the time would ask me why my face was so red but never really caught on (she would eventually find them toward the end of our marriage). I always felt confident when I had a pill in my pocket and if sex was imminent taking one 5-10 mins prior was always plenty of time. It was awesome on many levels.

I thought that after my divorce it would be non stop sex with as many women as I could get my hands on but that has not been the case. Whatsoever.

I've tried to put a timeline on when things started going south with me. It may have happened gradually over the span of 4-5 years or it could have literally happened overnight. I kind of ignored it for a long time. The pills from India stopped working so I thought I had bought a bogus batch so I got the real ones from getroman.com. When those didn't work I started to panic. TRT therapy, pumps, and injections followed with little success. My problem has consumed my life and it's constantly on my mind, like a splinter in my brain. I can't date women because I am afraid to. It sucks.

I'm in shape, healthy, and have no problem attracting women on the dating websites. I've had sex a couple of times over the past two years but it's been super lame.

So I've decided that my only solution is an implant. I'm going to do it but I'm not going to lie I'm sacred as hell. Mostly because it's truly saying goodbye to a part of me that I've always hung my hat on, so to speak. That and having tubes in my dick and a bag of saline in my body is just bizarro to me. I can't completely come to grips with this yet but the alternative is not an option for me. I have a lot of life to live and a lot of fucking I still want to do. I've made a couple of implant consultation appts in my area in the coming weeks. I can't continue living this way. I wish I could see this Dr Eid guy but New York is not feasible for me. If anyone has any doc recommendations in the PNW it would be appreciated. Thanks for reading. Peace.

Hi,
Sorry you are going through this. ED sucks!!! Mine started at age 30 and the cause was not diagnosed for 30 years. Finally a doctor cares about me, not writing prescriptions and it was determined I had a Venous Leak.

You still have reservations about getting an implant, but seem resigned to the idea it is what you need. It is a one way road with no way back out so it is something you have to be sure about. In my case I had tried every other method available to help guys with ED and none worked. After all those years I was more than ready for it and didn’t have the hesitation you and most guys feel. It was more of a situation of my dick had betrayed me and was of no particular value as it was so I felt I had nothing to lose.

I have now had my implant for close to 2.5 years. It has been a Godsend. My wife and I both love it. Yes there are tubes in there and I have to pump it up to get hard, but it is amazing to know I can get hard, stay hard, please my wife and feel like a young stud again. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I live in Atlanta so can’t help with doctors in your area, but wish you all the best. Glad you found FrankTalk. There are some great guys here who love to help another guy who is dealing with the issues they have been through.

I am 64 and had ED from a VL. Implanted by Dr. Ronald Anglade in Atlanta on 9/18/17. I have an AMS700LGX 21 cm via a Penoscrotal incision. Very happy with results. 6" soft and 6 3/4” x 5 5/8” hard.

Welcome. You'll find a lot of invaluable information and support here, this is a great group of guys.

Your basic story is not uncommon at all. My ED started in my very early 30s and I got a lot of years of perfectly fine sex out of all the pills in all their combinations. Their effectiveness waned over a number of years. Drug tolerance happens. Common.

I'm now 7 weeks post-implant but I spent the prior 9 years, after pills' got wobbly, injecting with many formulations of Trimix. You did not mention any consideration (by you, nor by your healthcare providers) of injections, though in a step-wise approach it is common (and, often compelled by insurance plans) that injections would naturally follow after pills). Why no talk of injecting?

No one truly wants needles in their dick, that's a given. But it's profoundly less invasive than what those of us who've gone the implant route have consented to, and injections...dosed thoughtfully and titrated to you personally and injected properly...can deliver hardons you might not even begin to believe were remotely possible. Not an exaggeration. Plenty of guys on here will tell you that the right injection strategy gives them the same thing I had with Trimix - steel girder hardons that literally last, unchallenged, for 60, 90 minutes, sometimes approaching 2 hours. It's absolutely shocking what Trimix is capable of. Yes, the mechanics of a refrigerated injectable and carrying around needles etc is bothersome. So what? The alternative is the experience and terrible anxiety you're currently already mixed up in. It's amazing and sort of predictable how the drawbacks of injecting sort of fade into the background the first few times you fuck for 2 hours straight with a baseball bat dick and you drive your partner into sputtering exhaustion. The confidence you described when pills were working for you? Effective Trimix, in my experience and opinion, was so crazily far and beyond what pills were capable of doing for me. Delivered a confidence and swagger throughout my 40s and early 50s akin to being a superhero. I came to absolutely love injecting. There is of course a risk of fibrosis and scar tissue developing over time with injections, but there is risk on top of risk with the implant, too.

Why rush to thinking implant? Why no consideration of injecting?

I tried Trimix a few times. Worked the first time a little bit then nothing. The head of my dick did not get hard either and it hurt like a bitch for an hour. Sharp pain and burning. Very sensitive and not in a good way. My dick felt like a bloody pin cushion. Plus I read here where many guys get scarring and even peyronies after awhile. Too many negatives and it's really inconvenient. If I will ultimately at some point need an implant why would I inject my penis for the next decade. If the dick doesn't work in my opinion it's best to just go bionic and get on with it.

Penile suppositories (works the same way as injections, but you just put a cream or a pellet inside your urethra) may work for you.

They are working on better solutions and treatments than the (invasive and destructive) implant constantly. Remember, an implant does not cure impotence. It makes it worse. (Much as a prosthetic limb that works well is an improvement over amputating a partially usable limb, the prosthetic precludes any hope of an actual cure.)

However, if waiting for medical science is not in your options and alternative sexual activities will not do for you (there are many ways to please a woman and to be pleased, other than coitus), an implant is pretty good, despite the risks and drawbacks.

So, the conventional wisdom is to try everything that MIGHT work before going under the knife.

If you decide on an implant, find an experienced surgeon who is dedicated to his craft and with a good track record. You don't have to go with the ones with a huge reputation (a handful of surgeons are mentioned here frequently, but there are MANY equally talented and skilled surgeons quietly doing implants successfully).

Good luck.

By the way, don't shy away from approaching a woman just because your penis cannot perform. Women are incredibly supportive, understanding and eager to help if they feel trusted, respected and SAFE. I found several willing to help me, knowing I was incapable of "normal" sex when I advertised for a "lab partner" to journey with me from impotence to my treatment.

Well, if you will "ultimately at some point need an implant" anyway, then why did you even try pills at all? By that logic, pills made no sense. Why not just escalate things to the maximum ultimate option the moment ED showed itself? If you started feeling arthritis in your hip, would you skip nonsteroidal drugs and skip PT and rehab and just ask for a prosthetic hip replacement, since you'll probably need one at some point anyway? And what would you honestly think about a physician who would support that thinking?

To each his own, for sure, and I don't have a dog in your fight. It's a personal thing you'll obviously decide for you.

And maybe you're right, maybe you don't have a Trimix-friendly-dick. Or...maybe you just don't have a drug concentration/combination friendly to your dick. There are tons of combinations and even really competent urologists don't always know as much about fine tuning that stuff as you would assume or hope they would. If you have any interest at all in talking to someone who is sort of the godfather of Trimix (he essentially helped with its early clinical studies and he now runs a compounding pharmacy in Florida) let me know, I'd be happy to share his contact info. He got on the phone once with my other urologist (not my implant surgeon) and my urologist thanked me for connecting the two of them, said he learned a ton. From a PharmD. Message me if you have any interest and if you'd find value in just having the conversation with him. I'm not sure how much papaverine is in your mix, but based on your comments and negative experience, it may just be too damn much and need a tweak.

Best of luck, hope something here on this forum is of help to you.

I used viagra because it worked! Why would anyone stick a needle in their junk if pills were working just fine? Where is the logic in that? I've done pills and trimix. They're not working anymore, thus, I feel that “ultimately” I may need an implant. Does that make sense?

I get that, but honestly, I don't look at it that way at all. And from what I've read on this forum, not many men or women do either.

Women are incredibly supportive, understanding and eager to help if they feel trusted, respected and SAFE. I found several willing to help me, knowing I was incapable of "normal" sex when I advertised for a "lab partner" to journey with me from impotence to my treatment.

They are supportive, I agree but in all due respect I find the idea of advertising kind of like numbers game. Hitting as many eyeballs as possible in the hopes that someone would love me for me and my "issue" sounds sad. Just my 2 cents. I'll stick to the old fashioned way.

I'm not sure how much papaverine is in your mix

Straight Alprostidal no papervine the NP at the TRT clinic who gave it to me said it's known to cause "nodules" on the penis or something.

You said you tried Trimix "a few times". I made what I thought was the entirely reasonable and rational observation that people looking to benefit from injectables like Trimix rarely benefit maximally unless they really scrutinize and aggressively manage and manipulate the many variables of drug combination, individual drug concentrations, drug volume, and injection site strategy. Not sure how that became a controversial point.

So investigate the implant, then, get it done right, and get back to having all the sex you want to have, and everyone here would wish you well and be happy for that transformation for you.

I'm not here to fucking spar with you. Not interested in the least. This board frequently challenges one's perceptions, acquired information, and worldview. All good things. Was offering a point of view to consider. That's it.
