Telling my 32 yr old son I’m getting an implant

Postby Rider1400 » Tue Mar 22, 2022 9:17 am

Having dealt with Ed for 12 years,I’m going to see my chosen surgeon for an implant this Thursday. I have a very close relationship with both my kids and wanted to tell my son why I was going to Dallas(300 mile trip) midweek. So I nervously began explaining an implant and the pros and cons of such. About 5 minutes into my conversation with him, he literally busts out laughing causing me to just stop talking…. Confused and already nervous, I didn’t know whether to be mad or just stop talking about it……. My son finally got control of his laughter, and says I’m SO SORRY dad! ….. said I just had a thought and lost it!!!…. I said with a bit of frustration in my voice….. please explain!! Between laughing and stopping to get control of himself he says..”again I’m so sorry but had this thought,…. I’m going to have to ask you to let me see and demonstrate this tHING when it’s all said and done”!!!! We had a big laugh together and got serious and he had a few questions. Congratulated me on my decision.

That's Funny!
But there is NO WAY I'd tell my boys unless they ask dad for advice. And since my oldest just hit the big 50 that may be sooner than later. When I did my implant they were all told it was a growth on a testicle that needed removal.
However I commend you for the relationship you share with your son.

My son took me to the surgery and stayed with me. All my grandsons also know about it. Dad had an implant and I wish we had talked about it in more depth.

I told my 49-year-old son what was happening because I needed his help on the day of surgery. After I told him (I was 73 then), he just smiled and said, "good." There have been no inquiries.

A few days after telling my son, and getting a good laugh I told my 30 year old daughter….. again she and I have a very good relationship. She went thru cancer at 18, with 8-9 months of chemo, two hip replacements over the next 4 years, total hysterectomy, gall bladder removal, and numerous heart issues, so we talk about so many medical issues and she is very intelligent in such things. Was actually less nervous telling her than my son. She thought it was an awesome thing and asked a dozen questions and I sent her a video of Perito doing the surgery!
