If you got implanted in your 20s or 30s, and the implants have a 10-15 year lifespan, that means 3-4 or more surgeries over your lifetime to replace them as you get older. Is there a risk of scar tissue or problems with that many replacements?

What choice do we have though? If you need it there is nothing else for it. You could wait for a medical revolution in tech for ED, good luck with that happening anytime soon.

There is therefore no point in worrying about revisions. We have no control, apart from minimising the chance of infections. Don't be silly with it. If only emotions could be so rational.

Yes, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. My implant(s) have given me so much that I was missing, the concern of a replacement is something I've been at peace with. The technique has improved since my first and I actually received a larger device the second time around. I've also accepted that I need to budget (have an HSA or sinking fund) towards an implant and it's just a cost of living.

My answer is yes too. But, as LeRoastBeef said, if it is my only choice, it´s just about accepting it and making my mind to it. I find your points of view very rational, and I agree. Besides, I suppose that the technology of the implants will be developed in the coming years, and every time that we get a replacement, the solution will be more advanced, and hopefully we will be more satisfyed, and need fewer replacements in our lifetime.

I have a question for Minnesota: as far as I know, the prosthesis have lifetime guarantee. If you get it replaced every 10-15-20 years aprox. there will be for sure new more developed models. Does the guarantee offer a replacement with a more developed model, with no extra costs? Would you have to pay the difference in price to your previous model? How does it work?

Good question, and I'm not sure I know the full answer. it's in both the surgeons and Coloplast's advantage to give me the "new and improved" model where available, because I believe they want success rates as high as possible. This means length of device life and failure rate. My revision includes the original Titan pump, not the OTR. So I received any newer model tubing and cylinders, with the classic pump.

I paid my full out-of-pocket maximum through health insurance, and this was achieved with the hospital stay alone. So if they added it to the total billed claims, I wouldn't see any increase in costs.

I'm 32 and since January i had three surgeries, one for my first implant, broken pump after couple of months, revision to change just the pump with a huge scrotal hematoma complication. Pump stopped working again, both pumps were involved in ams recall. I had my last surgery to replace the entire device a couple of weeks ago.
I'm also worried because I'm just 32 years old and I already had two revisions. I've been extremely unlucky for sure, but I hope for future improvements in longevity of these devices.

Honestly, cialis is somehow working for me now, but I can not get the same performance as I got a few years ago. However, I am not in favor of getting an implant. I am 35 and I just do not see myself going for revisions, replacements etc. every so often...

Yes i am, it's one of the major reasons why i haven't considered getting an implant yet.

I've had way too many surgeries already to accept even one more, let alone the prospect of multiple surgeries to follow...

I am on the way of getting an implant and this is something that it really keeps my head on thoughts. I have not heard of any person that is 70-80 years old saying: "I got an implant when I was 25yo and I have had 4 revisions since then, nothing to worry, I still have sex"

I think that it all depends on the surgeon you choose to get your implant, meaning this first implant or revision.

Back in the day they were very reluctant to implant young men. They still are, but much less so. For good reason of course.
That is, partly at least, why you don't hear about 80 year olds implanted at 25.

That and most young men retain great function until older age.
