From what I have read, the nerves and sensations give orgasm. Blood flow into the Corpus Cavernosa provides the erection. They work together, but they CAN work independently. Meaning you can have an erection even if you are completely numb and you can have orgasm if you are completely flaccid.

Problem is, your partner appreciates firmness. And for you to get good sensations having an erection under the skin helps. I suspect that there is some orgasmic sensation where the base of the penis attaches to the body as well, but that is speculation on my part.

I need a little bit of an erection for orgasm/ejaculation, but it will happen even if 50-60% erect, maybe a bit less.

If I masturbate with out Viagra I can´t get erect at all...

If I´m flacid I will ejaculate a good amount of sperm with no sign of orgasm what so ever.
It just leaks out completely out of control alomst the same when i´m hard.

I've had orgasms with very weak erections too when I try to jerk off for a third time or when drunk. So I'd say that they are common enough, although the orgasmic feeling is definitely there (and the erection gets better right before the orgasm).
