Sensitivity

Since PCa 5 months ago I've finally reached the point where I can again enjoy the physical part of the relationship, (penetration) however I notice I have much less sensitivity at the tip and along the shaft, is this a temporary thing or does all the feeling eventually come back. I know nerves were damaged but didn't think it would be surface nerves.

Welcome and wow. Time to celebrate your ability to achieve hardness sufficient for penetration within 5 mos! That should bode very well for further recovery as time goes by. I'm also PCa and believe you are ahead of the recovery curve. No one seems to fully understand the nerve damage done by the required treatment so we move forward in small steps when we can.

I would think that with usage, as suggested by Jeff, and time, things will continue to improve for you. Not only is the therapy fun, but use it or loose it seems to be a good rule. This all takes time; I continue to make small improvements almost 4 years post surgery- sometimes.

If you are not using a pump, suggest you consider talk with with your doc about that therapy process. It is possible increased blood flow might assist the nerves to come back more completely and sooner.

thanks for your comments, I did use the pump for couple of months to get firm enough but lately have stopped as I get hard enough with just Viagara. I do consider myself lucky to have rebouded in the ED department so quickly, I'm 56 and never had a problem springing to attention prior to surgery so I'm looking forward to continued improvement. Maybe I can ditch the Viagara too with time.

I'd still like to know if anyone else is missing the sensation that comes from the surface skin with rubbing and whether I can expect a return to full feeling...I'm not whining, I'm grateful for what I have...just curious.

i just had an interesting email from a guy who is 3 years out from surgery. He has just noticed that when he takes cialis, he loses pleasure sensation in his penis. When he switched back to Viagra, it returned. Your situation came to mind immediately. Could you try switching drugs? It is entirely possible that this could be a side effect. When you masturbate with no viagra, how is the sensation then?
Then, in normal sex therapy aspect of things, how much masturbating are you doing? Most men should masturbate (or have sex) every day to promote blood flow and nerve healing. Is there any way that you could be desensitizing your penis?
Good question for you to raise. You can't be the only one.

It could very well be the Viagra. I used Viagra occasionally before my surgery, and it made it very hard for me to orgasm.

I experienced the same lack of sensation once when I used Muse. That happened early in the day. The next time I used it, it was later in the day and it worked well. So it seems to me that as with other drugs the time of day can make a difference to the effects.
I've also noticed that ciallis doesn't work so well for me within the first few hours. And yet it is supposed to take efffect within half an hour. If I take it the night before, it will be effective in the morning.
We just have to fine tune these things.

Thanks for the replies everyone. An interesting thing happened this morning, after playing in the shower with my wife this morning we migrated to the bedroom and everything worked...no Viagar. It wasn't as rigid as with Viagara but it did do the job, so another milestone. It was the same thing in the sensitivity dept. though...not as much as before. I'm thinking it just might be nerve damage that will eventually return. I'm ecstastic that things are returning to "normal" so I'm not going to sweat it. I've seen many posts of PCa guys with much less so I can truly appreciate my situation.
