ED & AI after radical prostatectomy
ED & AI after radical prostatectomy
Does anyone have experience with heterosexual anal intercourse after radical prostatectomy? Wondering if erections will ever be hard enough for long enough to do this ever again.
Re: ED & AI after radical prostatectomy
The average time for erections to return after an RP is 24 months. Some more time some less. Did you check your post RP pathology and surgeons notes? Did he spare your nerves? Many variables.
82, good health, RP 7-2017, all nerves taken , PSA 0.05, 4-18,, .07 1/19,.05 4/19, .03 11-21, .04 11-23, implanted 4-1-18, Infra-pubic, AMS lgx 15 cm with 5cm rte. Implant at USC Keck. Dr Boyd and Dr Loh Doyle 6.5 x 5, 800 AUS 7-21-20

Nerves spared both sides. Not loving the VED and rings. Viagra sort of helps but not with keeping erection for long.

Sounds like you are starting to heal. How long has it been? Cialis daily even if it doesn't give an erection creates beneficial blood flow. Watch Dr John Mulhall on you-tube. He is from sloan kettering and his specialty is penile rehabilitationAbcWeav wrote:Nerves spared both sides. Not loving the VED and rings. Viagra sort of helps but not with keeping erection for long.

Re: ED & AI after radical prostatectomy
It took almost five years for me to get a real good erection back after a radical prostatectomy followed up two years later with radio therapy due to rising psa. So yer at least five years. I still have the odd problem but I think that’s due to performance anxiety. But when my wife is in the mood anal sex is not a problem.
Oh and in those five years viagra or any of the other drugs worked.

I had a RP in 2016 and a year later My psa started to rise resulting in having 37 sections of radio therapy. 2021 Testosterone replacement stopped due to psa rising again. Oncologist says most likely coming from a malignant source. I am at my wits end.

First, sorry the RP was not successful in fully eradicating your prostate cancer. Second, what is "radio therapy"?
Finally, what was your ED history after RP? Was it total ED at first, followed by gradual improvement -- or more of an all-at-once ability to achieve an erection?
I am almost three years since RP, and seeing some improvement in erectile function but need trimix injection for intercourse.
Born 1955, Erectile Dysfunction, Robotic Prostatectomy (Oct 2018, Dr Bugg @ UCA, Birmingham, AL), PSA<0.007, Trimix User (30 mg Papaverine HCL, 1 mg Phentolamine MES, 10 mcg Alprostadil per 1 ML. My dose is 0.16 ML)

It has been 11 weeks since my RP. I take 20mg Viagra almost every day. Have only tried bigger doses a few times with limited results. Meaning the quality of erections is about the same (maybe a little better) than without bigger dose. None of them stick around for long though.

Sorry I might not have explained myself very well. I was basically sent home the next day after my RP with very little information of what to expect in terms of anything. I had the catheter removed after a week post surgery. Then a follow up with the urologist who had preformed the surgery six weeks later. He explained that he had managed to save the neves one onside of the prostate and partially save some on the other side. I wasn’t sent home with any information on any penis and erection therapy. A follow up appointment had been made for me to see an oncologist 12 weeks post RP. It was then when it was explained about life and ED post surgery. Any ways in the first six months I just put up with the ED until I started doing some research online and found out I could get a VED on the NHS. Well I tried one and that sort of gave me a little firmer softie. It was no good for penis in vagina sex or any other sex for that matter. I had previously prior to being diagnosed with prostate cancer suffered some mild ED and had tried all of the PDE5 medication and all caused me really bad reactions and side effects. So they were out of the question. So my wife and I just accepted the fact that we were going to have to live with my ED
Any way 2 year post The RP a blood test done by the oncologist showed a detectable psa reading. 3 blood tests done at six weeks apart showed my PSA was rising fast. So it was discussed My only option was to have radiotherapy Also known as radiation therapy to the prostate bed would be my best option. I had 37 sections of radiotherapy. And that seemed to have killed off any remaining cancer cells. My ED stayed the same no erections or even the slightest glimmer of one. The one morning in 2020 I woke up with a rock hard erection just like that straight out of the blue. I do get a lot of anxiety caused ED. But boy when he works he works . Ok I have lost a far bit of length my wife reckons about 2/2.5 inches but now at just under 6 inch we are both happy with what I have got. I was in those years diagnosed with low Testosterone and mega high prolactin. And was started on Testosterone replacement therapy. But the was stopped six weeks ago after a routine blood test showed a large detectable psa reading. I have got a blood test booked for the 22nd of this month for a psa test. I/we my wife and I are preparing for what ever is to come along next. But I will say something never waste an erection when you get one. Good luck on your journey and I wish you all the luck in the world.
