More likely some sort of contact dermatitis. Your skin just didn't like that cream. As for the bag balm, that's largely lanolin which is generally pretty soothing to the skin. I didn't know it to be anti-fungal. It looks like the current active ingredient is 8-Hydroxyquinoline Sulfate (0.3%).

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen a doctor yet and I'm not entirely sure if this really was balanitis or some other infection but the symptoms were all there. I know I should have seen a doctor sooner but I don't think it's worth it now, the infection was short-lived and has completely cleared. As for the torn frenulum, it's healing very well and should be perfect in a couple of days.

And yes, Bag Balm is a wonderful antifungal. I don't know if that's its primary use but I have used it to treat athlete's foot with excellent results. And once again, Bag Balm saved the day, I absolutely love this product and can't praise it enough.

This has been a weird month but the injury is now healed. There are still these minuscule hard areas (scar tissue?) under the prepuce but they're quickly decreasing in size and disappearing.

A few conclusions to be drawn from all this:

1) These injuries are common during sex. It's no reason to panic and if it bleeds, put some pressure on the wound and seek immediate medical help.

2) #1 step is to avoid sex for some time. The NHS webpage speaks of a 6 week pause, which seems very sensible to me.

3) You may apply some vaseline, neosporin or other topical treatment but don't overdo it. These treatments seem to make the skin more sensitive and may cause irritation (exactly what happened to me)

4) If there's pain, itchiness or irritation of the skin, Bag Balm may be a good solution.

5) Some preventive measures should be taken: good lubrication, wear a condom.

I forgot to mention the excellent HALIBUT (zinc oxide) cream. It did not irritate my skin and may help the healing process.

Would you like to specify what happened exactly and how was the recovery process? Sharing our experiences is always helpful and this is FT, so we have nothing to fear or hide.

I hope I'm not being intrusive but I believe this is no joke. Urology clinics are overflowing with cases of injuries but nobody likes to talk about it.

Spring of 1997 Age 46: During intercourse; face to face wife on top sitting, she unexpectedly dropped straight backwards- flat to the bed breaking my penis in half. I immediately grabbed, reset and iced my penis, I knew it was bad. Penis did not respond well and “shrunk” to a ping-pong ball sized nub.
I was in to see my MD within a few days. I was in to see the specialist within a week. Dr Holland with Holy family clinic in North Spokane.
1, My penis was “stuck” in a collapsed form to my body, I had to sit to urinate for 2 years, cupping my hand in front of penis to direct urine to the bowl. It was all very depressing.
2, I was put on 200IU vitamin E daily and powdered Potaba to drink twice daily.
After next visit to Dr Holland I was prescribed Viagra to try to “force” the “fire plug” out of hiding. After a few doses movement presented. One morning I woke up to a penis knob about 1” in length. The vit E and Pataba continued for that entire summer into late fall.
3, after almost a year, Viagra induced erections my penis presented to about 2 inches (intercourse was still impossible for another year) My penis began to be severely curved (think tea cup handle) also with a twist at the gland. Its about this time the “hour glass “ appearance presented. A distinctive narrowing band in the middle shaft of my now very short penis during erection. When not erect my penis would retire to a collapsed position. There was no flaccid times.
4, At 2 +years of struggle, It was this time Dr Holland offered and advised a penal implant, Me- just past 48 years old and afraid of the technology declined, I kept trying to grow my penis. Then after two years and a solid three inches long at erection we were now able to have one position sex which continued for the next 5 + years.
5, I relied on Viagra and all its innate issues (timing is everything) and side effects ( headache upset stomach )
6, Age 54 I needed the varicose veins in left leg remove due to severe daily leg fatigue and pain. By this time I have had a bit of improvement in penis girth and length
7, Age 56 I started showing signs on Dupuytren’s contracture in my hands. My hands are (to date) are still fully functional. At that time I was still relying Viagra but increasing dosage to maintain an erection.
8, Age 58 switched to Cialis as the Viagra was causing savorer side effects. Headache, stomach / heartburn rectal bleeding.
9, Cialis was tolerated somewhat better and allowed intercourse for several more years at a reduced frequency due to side effects.
10, Age 66 ( present) I have not had an hard erection nor intercourse for 8 months, I have totally ended my use of oral pills due to untenable side effects. Recently I have been vacuum pumping penis weekly to maintain size and girth these size gains made over a tough 20 years, sense age 46 when penis was broken. At present I am able to make a flaccid penis and able to ejaculate but intercourse and normal sexual activity is impossible.

Penile injuries are still a big taboo, even bigger than sexual dysfunction. And yet, they are extremely common and nothing to be laughed at. If you think I'm being paranoid, just ask any urologist about the prevalence of these cases.

There is no safe way to prevent these injuries but some precautions must be taken.

I can't stress this enough: some sex positions are dangerous and should be avoided. Like I said earlier, woman on top is not a safe position.

Another insane position: man is standing, woman sits on his penis, which has to support her entire body weight!

A common injury: the penis slips from inside the woman and you thrust it against her pubic bone.

UPDATE: After more than a month of complete abstinence (which was a good thing, not just because it allowed me to heal but also because I don't want to become a sex addict), I had sex on August 27 and it was great. No pain, no injuries, excellent erection.

I came up allergic to an antibiotic, Levofloxin. Leviquine another name and is a Cipro drug. It is favored for upper respiratory infections. Make a long story short, when I took it all the skin on my glans sloughed off and I bled profusely. I couldn't figure out what caused it. I immediately went to a URO and he bandaged it with a dressing used for open wounds. It would not heal. There it was wrapped up like a pig in a blanket. A little opening in the end to pee. I changed the dressing every 2 days. WTF??? It started to heal some after about 30 days then my primary doc prescribed the Levoquin again for my lung problem. BANG! the end of my dick flys off again. The inside of my mouth starts bleeding also. This is a skin problem so I go see my dermatologist. ( He always has these hot young PAs with him.) Here is the old man unwrapping his crippled old dick in front of this really hot young thing. Dermatologist knows right away that the skin inside your mouth and skin of the glans is always covered normally. I am circumcised so mine isn't covered. He says I have an allergy to the drug. Many people do. The glans wound stayed with me almost 3 years till I got an implant after an RP. I guess it needed a rest which implant recovery required. It is still tender and the skin is almost see through thin now at 5 years later. Be careful with this drug if you have skin allergies.

I'm not sure what caused the reaction in my penis: maybe one specific cream, maybe a combination of creams (I tried several), or maybe I just used too much.
