Question on trying to get the erection back
Question on trying to get the erection back
About 6 months post op, my doctor prescribed Viagra (25m nightly) and once a week increase the dosage to 50 or 100m. He also told me to buy a pump and use it 2 or 3 times a week. I am 15 months post op and doing better but I need the pump and medicine. My question is when people use the pump daily, etc and get an erection do they continue until they have an orgasm. I have heard some say the doctor said to j/o every day (use it or lose it) and others say they use the cxxk ring for several minutes to maintain the erection. I am just wondering what other doctor's are suggesting or what the patients are actually doing.
Re: Question on trying to get the erection back
Rob,
My surgeon told me to JO every day. Not only does it promote blood flow, nerve regeneration and penile rehab, but he told me it was also very good for my heart! When I am in my good routine, I pump every day in the shower - I bought a cheap pump and just use it to pump up. i let it hang there fully pumped while I shower. Then right before I get out, I take off the pump and wash up and I'm ready to go. It helps the old self esteem to step out of the shower and look fuller. I also find that pumping regularly helps increase size. But it goes away if no longer pumping for a week or so. I take 100 mg viagra most nights. It does help give me nocturnal erections. It is also perfectly usable for sex.
that's about it. I'm one of the lucky ones. I CAN get an erection with a LOT of work, but it's just not worth it. drugs are good.

Re: Question on trying to get the erection back
Thanks. You answered the question I have been pondering as well. You said you take Viagra every night. I take 25m every night and on nights for sex I take 100m. I guess we have to takew these drugs for life. I too get nocturnal erections with the pills and also with the pump. Thanks for the response.
Re: Question on trying to get the erection back
Taking sex drugs for life is not that big a deal for me. as my buddies tell me - they are taking a long hard look (pun intended) at taking them for the rest of their lives and they've never had surgery! We have lots of stuff to battle in all of this. if drugs give me sex back, great. And how many guys can JO and say - Doctor's Orders!

Re: Question on trying to get the erection back
I had my surgery Oct. 19th, so I'm almost 3 months out. I've had virtually no sign of an erection, with or without drugs. At best, just a little swelling. With a LOT of work, I've had some of those oxymoronic "orgasms without an erection", and combined with no ejaculation, it's pretty pathetic. Some sensations like the old days, then before anything good happens, it's all over. If, and when an erection comes back, does it get any better? I gotta say, if this is it, it's not worth it. My surgeon prescribed MUSE and Cialis (which of course my insurance won't cover). I used his samples both together per his directions and had no response at all. I've since ordered 100mg Viagra ("Manly") from ADC instead. I think it's the real thing since I'm getting all the side effects (blue vision, flushed face, heart burn), but very little results in the ED department. Is it just too soon? I'm taking the V most nights at bed time for the hopeful therapeutic effect (and being asleep during the side effects).
My biopsy showed 1% involvement in one out of 12 cores, with a Gleason 3+3. However, the pathologist could find no cancer at all after the DaVinci prostatectomy. I told the doc with these tiny biopsy results that I did not want to be a case of over diagnosis, and most of all, over treatment. If I had known they would not find anything in the pathology results, I would not have gone through this, at least at this stage. Five or ten more years of real erections and real orgasms...? I kick myself every day for making such a rash and premature decision. Should have waited and watched.
Any hope for real sex again?

Re: Question on trying to get the erection back
Daniel,
You are very early after surgery. I can empathize with your discouragement regarding your orgasm as I went through the same experience right after my surgery. I had my first orgasm one day after the catheter was removed and though my sex life was over for good (and my penis was a wet noodle too). However, the orgasm does get better as you heal over the coming weeks and months. You have this unique opportunity to relearn your orgasm like you were 12 again, so try to think of this as a learning opportunity. NOTE: I orgasm on average every day, with or without my wife, and if my wife wasn't there I tell her all about how it felt and what I tried to make it more intense. When I tell her I had a really good one, she puts her arm around me and says, "good boy". I love her!
I'm 15 months out now and I can honestly say that my orgasms are different, but I've learned how to make them satisfying and I had fun learning how to do that!
Regarding your erections, again it’s really early and you need to give this some time. I found that Viagra worked best for me, but we are all different. You should be very hopeful for “real sex” again.
