How to publicize my story (if at all)

Postby Baseballfan11 » Sat Aug 03, 2024 1:53 pm

I have been fortunate to see some success from the public speaking circuit. I am getting booked at more HS, specifically boys schools as a niche topic I address is gambling addiction. A major motivation behind my own gambling in college was the need to feel manly and a big shot, which I felt robbed of from failed sexual experiences.

I feel disingenuous painting myself out to be a complete nerd or dork who had trouble attracting girls. I attracted plenty, I just couldn’t close out the experiences. I believe my story of dealing with this problem is so important as it touches on many important themes like manhood, resilience, coping, dealing with emotional issues. However it is possibly graphic, probably not relatable to a ton of people (or people who would care to admit similar problems), and could be personally humiliating for me to admit.

I want to capture the concepts from this ongoing experience but wonder if it is worth incorporating into some of these talks, or if there is a way to allude to “relationship issues” without mentioning any of it. I am getting into more practical planning about the implant, which I hope will help with some of the depression that can still come up from these problems.

Thanks for your insight
26 years old. USA. ED problem since teenage years. Doctor prescribed ED meds showing some efficacy but not a guarantee. As much as I’d like the implant I now think I should hold off if I’m seeing some results from pills

This is just me as a parent talking. My kids are actually older than you.

I’m not sure I’d be comfortable with anyone in a school setting trying to educate my kids on sexuality beyond the actual anatomy & biology.

An educator should probably go no further down this road than telling young people that sexual function problems occur in all age groups and their questions/concerns should be shared with parent or medical professional or even better, parent and medical professional.

I know it doesn’t work this way but the truth is if you are embarrassed about your parents knowing you’re having sex, you probably shouldn’t be doing it.

Maybe I’m just weird. My kids asked questions and I gave them honest answers.

Yeah, it’s a philosophical deal and I doubt we will agree. I just think there are topics which should be focused on within the education system but human sexuality/sexual dysfunction is not one of them.
