TURP or HOLEP LASER FOR BPH

Postby Howling8 » Fri Nov 29, 2024 5:15 pm

My urologist at the VA said she is planning a HOLEP laser procedure for my prostate. I'm wondering which one to get. The TURP with less down time or the HOLEP ?
Thanks

I got the Rezume procedure by Boston Scientific, it is a device that injects small amounts of steam into specific sections of the prostrate to reduce the size of the prostrate by killing some tissue. It allows you to keep your normal ejaculate instead of it going back into your bladder with the other treatments.
I just had a benign enlarged prostrate and didn't have an elevated PSA.
If you choose to go this route to retain your regular ejaculate make sure you choose to go under.
I initially was supposed to go under but this was during the pandemic and elective procedures were pushed back that needed a surgery room, so I decided to take a out patient where they would just numb me down there. Don't do the out patient :!: It hurt when they numbed me and it hurt when they injected the steam.

I had TURP surgery, but I had no choice.
I think I would have died of kidney failure if I didn't have it.
I had dropped to the low 20s (kidney function %) GFR.
I did develop 2 urinary infections afterward and have the retrograde ejaculation.
If you want to father kids, I wouldn't recommend it.

Update: On my last biopsies the cancer wasn't found.

I had HOLEP a few years back; no regrets apart from retrograde ejaculation. The big advantage is the much faster recovery time compared to TURP.

I’m looking into with my new urologist tomorrow morning I have large prostate so I’m hoping it’ll work because I have to wait till march to get the HOLEP. I want to get my implant revision done this winter
