Rezum Procedure

Hey all…

I’ve had increasing frequency/urgency of urination since my implant surgery, in spite of being on Trospium and Flomax. I saw Dr. Hakky yesterday and had an ultrasound, which confirmed the prostate protruding rearward and pushing on the bladder. I’m going back next week to be evaluated for the possibility of having the Rezum steam-ablation procedure to shrink the prostate tissue.

Has anybody had this or other prostate shrinking procedures, and what was the result. From my reading Rezum is highly effective and long lasting, but can take up to 12 weeks to get the full effect and the first 3-4 weeks can see *increased* frequency from inflammation and healing.

Elbow, I had the Rezum procedure for my benign enlarged prostrate. My Army Major urologist at Brooke Army Medical Center, wanted me to have the Rezum procedure before I got my implant.
I wanted to be able to keep my natural ejaculate even though I started having less ejaculate after I had prostatitis in 2006.
I didn’t want to do the turp procedure where they roto rooter your prostrate and your ejaculate retro grades back into your bladder.
I had the procedure May 19th 2021 during COVID.
I had to totally heal before I could get my IPP implant, which was approximately 5 months, but it could have been delayed because of COVID having access to elective surgery and the availability of a surgical room.
I had my implant done Nov 5th 2021.

It has worked for me, I don’t get super urgent urges to pee and can’t hold it anymore. There are times if my bladder is full and I’ve been holding off going to take a piss, ill leak a little, but that’s only .01 percent when I’m out on my Road Bike doing a long cycle ride.

If you get it done, make sure they put you to sleep to do it.
I had it done with a local awake and I felt all the steam injections even though he had numbed me. I told him I felt the steam injections during my Followup and he said if I would have told him it was hurting, he would have stopped the procedure. Oh well, I bit the bullet like in the old Westerns when they would dig out a slug.
It takes a good while before you’re healed up. I had blood in my ejaculate for a while, and you still get sudden urges to pee for a while, but eventually it gets way better.
Elbow, before the procedure I still could have erections with Viagra or Cialis but after the procedure I had total ED.
I’m glad I finally got my Bionic Dick because nothing would work.

I cannot give you a long history, but I had a PAE in late April of this year and I sleep through the night now.. I was going to get a rezum performed until I found this procedure. It is a very much less invasive procedure, you can look at it on YouTube.

Thanks Wilsonmill, Elbow, I didn’t know about this PAE procedure. If I would have known about this procedure, I would have used PAE.

From what I read on this procedure, you definitely could do a local numbing in office and no catheter afterwards.

Elbow, I would go for PAE.

I had the HOLEP procedure done in January of 2025 and then my 2nd implant in May of 2025. I piss like I’m 25 and that’s a gift at 71. Implant is great and orgasms started returning on a more regular basis since January

I opted for the Rezum procedure, performed exactly 4 weeks ago today. It was done in office, and unlike SWorks17, I experienced very little discomfort. Before the procedure started, they had me breathing Nitrous oxide through a tube in my mouth. I heard the doctor say he was starting and the next thing I knew the nurse was grabbing the breathing tube and saying we're done. That was a trip. Anyone considering Rezum or Urolift should check with their doctor about what methods he uses to mitigate any pain and discomfort and if you're not going to be in La La Land, have it done in an outpatient center where you are knocked out.

Post procedure has gone very well. I pissed orange colored urine for a week and a half, had no burning, cramping or other negative side effects. At four weeks, my BPH symptoms are gone unless I way over indulge liquid before I go to bed. I wouldn't say I would win a pissing contest now, but I'm pissing like it's 20 years ago. Very pleased.

I considered the PAE procedure, but after reading about it on the Johns Hopkins Medicine site, I opted for Rezum. Rezum has potential risks, but this on John Hopkins caught my eye: "Patients may experience “post-PAE syndrome” for days following the procedure, which can include nausea, vomiting, fever, pelvic pain, or painful or frequent urination. Other risks include hematoma at the incision site; blood in the urine, semen or stool; bladder spasm; or infection of the puncture site or prostate." Of course, some of those side effects can be experienced with Rezum, but it seemed to me that the Rezum procedure was a better choice. But, it's an individual choice that each of us have to make and go with our gut. I am extremely pleased with the results of Rezum.

Thanks. I’m fortunate the my surgeon (Hakky) offers the procedure, so that gives me a lot more confidence of him poking around near a year old implant, rather than a urologist who might not know all the details of implants and the components.
