Impotence Following Prostate Surgery

I had prostate cancer and had my prostate removed robotically 3 years ago (age 66). I started having nighttime erections (not great but something), about 8 months ago. One set of nerves was removed. Viagra, etc.... don't do much of anything and I don't like the side effects. Tried injections - don't like. I use the erectaid pump regularly - don't like to use the bands - they hurt. My testosterone is good (actually a little higher than normal - I use 2 tubes of Testim dailey. I take about 4 grams of L-Argenine daily. I am in very good shape - exercise regularly (weights and walking - 2+miles. I feel great.
I know I am old (69) but I'm not dead. I sure would like to get back in the saddle again.... I have a wonderful wife ---- and we do our thing and have orgasims, but I wish I could get it up and have the real thing again. I plan on a long life - with or without erections ---- my Dad is 99 ---- still plays good golf -- shoots around 50 for 9 holes. He also had prostate cancer about 20 years ago and was treated with hormones.... obviously they worked but as he has told me repeatedly - that ended his sex life.....

I am pleased that the thing works...... but it is frustrating that it doesn't work well enough to do the deed.

My question is does anyone have experience with slowing returning erectile function? What is the possibility of further improvement over time.

Sounds like you have tried almost all things over three years. I am a 2+ year post surgery (supposedly nerve sparing) without much to show for it except a few nocturnals. I also use a pump (Encore) using Osbon rings and yes they can be a pain sometimes (my complaint is the scrotal tissue getting pinched and blood starved causing irritation).

Recently started using Trimix -- pretty good 3+ hr erections and plenty of chub even after that. What kind of injections did you try? Edex or Caverject can be more aching pain than Trimix or Bimix. Did you try MUSE? But that also can cause annoying ache for some. For me -- not too bad.

How about Trimix-Gel? No ache there except for your wallet as it is 30 dollars per try. If you already have some erection capability it might work -- but seems not as effective as Trimix shots. A 6 pack is about 150 bucks -- not cheap. I have since converted one of my Trimix in the Gel to 30cc injectable liquid with great success. It makes a ton of injectable per each original Gel shot (30 cc) and that's well over a hundred very strong individual shots.

Some say that after starting injections it can kickstart naturals. Maybe it does, or maybe the residual injection ingredients stick around for some time after and help induce some chubbys? Not sure.

Hello everyone,

I'm new here... Was led to this site from an online friend of mine at www.dlife.com . He said that this site would give me the encouragement and confidence I need to believe that I CAN live again.

I'm a 45 year old male that was enjoying a very fruitful life until Type II diabetes crashed my life. And it has crashed my intimacy as well.

NONE of the pills have worked, and the MUSE is too painful. I've been given the Prostaglandin is VERY achy (plus I'm afraid of sticking my penis) but works.

I was recently given something called Pavernine (or something like that)(.5 cc's) by my Dr and WOW, no pain, and it was hard for 5 hours. I made use of all 5 hours too.

But... I can run to my Dr's office everytime I feel the urge to be intimate. So someone told me about the Trimix Gel, and said you just squirt it down the head of the penis and that's it! That just CAN'T be ALL there is to it....

I'm wondering if there's pain associated with it, or if it burns going down, etc. WHY wouldn't EVERYONE choose this if it's JUST THAT EASY?

I'm so discouraged... I don't know what to do.

I've not told my partner that I took a shot and asked her to come home early so I could make use of the Dr's visit. I'm ashamed. But I need to have some spontaneity.

1. I hate shots. It took me MONTHS to be able to take insulin shots. And those needles are the Nano by BD. Their smaller than the ED needles.
2. I don't want to have to run to the refrigerator and get something ready in order to be intimate. I can't take a cooler everywhere I go.

HELP... I'm feeling like my sex life is OVER...

I've read of guys taking up to four years to regain the ability for a useable erection, so I would say you're making improvement that is at least promising. However, I don't believe in false hope, given the real statistics regarding recovery from ED caused by PCa surgery. But you're doing better than many, so that is a good thing. Continued success with your progress.
