If it's not a venous leak, what else could it be?

Postby David39 » Sun May 06, 2018 9:14 am

Little background on me.

I'm 38 years old and I've suffered from some form of ED or another since my mid-20's. I've been married for 11 years, have three kids and have been with my wife for the last 15 plus years. Up until about a year ago we had great sex. Little, to no issue with losing erections whatsoever. I could generally outlast her on a regular basis. She could get to climax during intercourse at least once, sometimes twice and on a really good day, theee times during one sexual engagement. I could wait until she got off, then essentially and consciously decide, "well, I'm ready now." It was with ease.

Now, the first time I ever lost an erection was when I was 22 and it was with a girl that I was super-crazy excited about. So I chalk that up to performance anxiety. It happened again with another girl the first time at about 24 (me and my future wife had broken up at the time). My wife had our third child back in March of 2017 and since then I've had significant issues with ED to the point where I saw my doctor about it and I'm scheduled to go to him again in about a week.

He prescribed Viagra and I've had limited success with it. I have had very mild high blood pressure (usually around 130-85 and I was ok atenolol (50mg) and later placed on Ibresartan (150mg). Recently my doctor took me completely off any mess because he felt like the beta blockers may have been causing my ED issues. However, after about a week I'm still having the exact same issue. I've done a ton of research and read non-stop about it. Here are my symptoms and what I think it is.

I can almost always get good, hard and normal erections. That's typically not an issue at all. A few times here and there it has been, but for the most part I can get a good erecting. However, like many people that suffer from a venous leak, I lose any erection I have in a matter of seconds if there is no stimulation at all. As in, completely erect to completely limp in a matter of 3-5 seconds.

There are also times when we are having intercourse and the exact same feeling comes over me. Just essentially lose sensation and go limp. Sometimes I can regain erection. Other times I can't. A few times I've been able to reach climax half erect, which is really strange for me as I've never really experienced that.

In general over the past 2-3 months my erections are just not as strong as they used to be. It's become a huge issue and the more I read about it the more I'm convinced I have a venous leak. I'll be bribing this up to my doctor to see what he thinks but I'm already thinking ahead about specialsists and what I can do.

Ultimately, I'm hoping that it's not a venous leak but in the back of my mind I can't help but think that's exactly what it is. All of my symptoms feel in line with a venous leak, but if it's not, what else could it even be? I genuinely do not feel like this is a pshycholigical issue. I feel like it is 100% something physical.

Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

It could be venous leak. Then again, it could very well be from the beta blockers. Give it some time. Sometimes it takes a while for side effects to go away even after stopping use. I’d use the viagra or daily cialis in the meantime. Both will help the blood flow to your penis and keep it healthy. If the problems continue for months after stopping the beta blockers it’s probably venous leak.

So you say you hope it's not a VL BUT at least that would be better than psychosomatic. There are some members here that have that for a diagnosis...how in the hell do you treat that? Besides, I think that what they say instead of "I have no fucking idea what is wrong with you so I will diagnose something that will get his outta here for now". :)

I can't tell you the last time I had a good, hard morning erection. My doctor asked me about it and I told him that I do get them sometimes. However since my last doctor's visit I have to say I've been paying more attention and over the last 10 days I've had no morning erections at all. I keep hoping to wake up with one, but every morning... nothing.

Also, I've read that the body should be clear of beta blockers after stopping them after about 36 hours. It's been 10 days now. I'll give it some more time but I don't have any confidence that it was the issue. My doctor seemed confident that I'd have a return of normal erections after I stopped the Ibersartan but it's done nothing, so far.

It feels like a venous leak from everything I've read, but again. I hope it's not. Also, I forgot to mention that we are starting a testosterone injection on the 10th of this month. I'm hoping that will help as well, but right now I really have little confidence that it will. I have no issue wotbswx drive and usually don't have any issue getting erections. It's maintaining them that's the problem.

Like many have said, literally as soon as I stop any stimulation it starts a noticeable decline. My erections are never pointed upward when standing, always kind of horizontal. And sometimes it's not completely hard. It feels so odd too because much of the sensation remains. The other day my wife was able to get me to climax orally and using her hand while I was only about 60% erect. I've never had that happen before.

Also, I used to watch some porn and masturbate from time to time. I've since completely stopped. But I had gone through a phase for a few years where I watched it regularly and matsyrbated lrobably every 1-3 days.

I've read about that as well, and there doesn't seem to be a ton of research that definitively links masturbation to ED. It seems more of an urban legend to me. Honestly, I just can't think of any reason that I'd lose erectuons immediately after ceasing stimulation other than a venous leak. Everything can remain arousal, sex drive, etc, but it's as if I can feel blood leaving my penis.

I think when Viagra has worked it's simply because the blood flow in had matched what's leaving. When it fails the blood flow out is greater than the blood flow entering.

Definitely willing to try a cock ring. Seems like a logical solution if it is a venous leak. Does it hurt or bruise? Are there any long term side affects for using one? And how long can you leave it on? Any info will help. I'll look into it.

I'm not a medical professional of any kind and nothing I post should be construed as medical advice. Always ask your doctor and follow his/her advice.
No simple answer. They can be uncomfortable or not. It will depend on how tight it/they are. Some guys find they feel good and use them as daily wear. You'll want to use the mildest ring that works. You'll likely have to experiment. Expect to toss some in the trash until you find what works. If you end up needing a very tight one you're limited to 20 minutes or so but many will take the ring off to let the blood flow and then reapply. The real tight ones are commonly used in conjunction with Vacuum Erection Devices. Chances are you don't need that much ring. There are some adjustable ones out there too. If, while wearing the ring, your dick deflates quickly after climax the ring is probably good for extended wear. If it feels uncomfortably tight I'd use the 20 minute rule.

Yeah, what about ejaculation with a cock ring on? Is it possible and if so is it even pleasurable?
