Before my implant, I tried using a vacuum erection device (VED) with constriction ring for sex. But pumped up in bed with my (at the time) partner. Looking at my penis through the vacuum chamber she once remarked, "Impressive". Made my day.
You apparently choose to pump up out of sight. You have your reasons, but I wonder if you have explored sharing the process with your girlfriend? She may enjoy witnessing or even participating.
