The dreaded priapism

Yep, happened the other night. Injected .10 (prescribed) Trimix and got the usual erection. The erection, however, refused to leave. Went from someone who really wanted an erection to one who didn't want one at all. Took the Sudafed. First two. Then two more. Finally two more, these being the 30 mg doses. Nothing. Tried ice. Nothing. Tried walking around. Nothing. Finally went to the ER. Terrific female MD who was on duty was wonderful. Said she'd treated this before--twice for same guy who had sickle-cell, which was not my problem. Mine was ischemic, where the shaft is hard but the glans is not. Supposed to be painful according to Wikipedia, but mine was not at all painful. Anyway, she shot me with phenylephrine and tried to drain blood off with a small needle (she was being kind). Fifteen minutes later, no results, so she shot me again and used a larger (but still not terribly painful--she was good) needle and drained off about 15 cm of blood. Fifteen minutes later, all was good.
All appears to be okay. I'm going to .25 Trimix next time and working up from there. No idea why this time there was a problem. Still cannot convince my urologist that I didn't overdose or mix the shot with Viagra or Cialis. I wish she could tell me why this occurred. I'm going to be nervous the next time as I (and you) don't want this to happen. It's embarrassing (though everyone at the ER was professional and caring), upsetting, and inconvenient. There are better things to do at one in the morning than get stuck a couple more times and miss sleep. I've had morning wood since, so I know (or am pretty sure) there was no damage, but I did wait until about four hours before I went in. If it ever happens again, I'll not wait that long and recommend you don't either. If it ain't soft in 2 1/2-3 hours, head for the ER. Trapped blood gets oxygen-depleted and tissue you want not to die can do exactly that.
Wishing you all well, and hope this account of my misfortune is informative and helpful. My buddies and I have joked about this, but believe me, it's no laughing matter when it happens to you.
