Post implant travels

Postby Duberg88 » Mon May 06, 2019 8:41 am

Hi All

Pretty new here as only came across this website about a week ago but it’s been brilliant.

So basically my background is I’ve had ED since I was 24 years old through type 1 diabetes and now 30 years old. Started off on the usual levitra, cialis and viagra but hardly had any response to those and then was put on to injections which did help slightly but after a late night attempt at one the pain was so unbearable I decided to stop with them and then was given a pump but always knew a implant was what I was needing.

So last Thursday 2nd May I was suppose to have my operation for the implant but unfortunately on the day my blood sugar levels were too high so the surgeon had to cancel the operation because of risk of infection to the implant so I’ve been given another date at the end of June so fingers crossed everything will go to plan then and my surgeons have told me usually the recovery time with their patients is about 3 weeks but might be slightly longer with me since I’m diabetic and I generally heal slower than the average person.

My QUESTION for all you guys is there anyone here who has had an implant fitted and then either went on holiday for a few weeks or went travelling for a while after their recovery?

I only ask as after I’ve had my operation and am all healed and well, I am planning on going travelling for a year or so and was wandering if any guys came across any problems and if it was an issue being away from home etc.
I’m from Scotland and planning on going to India, Australia and japan etc.

Thanks Greg

Greg: Should not be a problem. I have had my implant for over three years and flow all over the US, also to the UK, Rome, Barcelona and the Carribean with no problems.

From one diabetic to another... keep your sugar levels under control from the week before to 8 weeks after. I was implanted on Dec 14th and we went on a cruise in February with 4 ports and all the touring that goes with them. No problems :)

Hi Larry

Thanks for the response. See the annoying thing is I always keep my levels well controlled recently but I was told by my surgery team and the leaflets they gave me to fast from midnight for the morning operation and to omit my morning injections so obviously being a type 1 diabetic I thought it would be better of me to run my sugars slightly higher to save me having an hypo on the theatre table. My reading was 14.0 mmol and the highest they could operate to was 11.0 mmol
Oh well you learn from your mistakes I suppose.
Going to phone my surgeons secretary team tomorrow just to get my re scheduled operation date confirmed in writing.

Thanks Greg

Hi Cincinnatus

Thanks for the response. That’s great to hear, hope you enjoyed all those places. I’ve had plenty of great nights in Rome with the rugby, wonderful city.
Hopefully once I’ve had my operation and fully recovered I’ll be able to enjoy a lot of this places again.

Thanks

Oh, that sucks... Here they don't mind the sugars running high because, as I'm sure you are aware, high is better than low. I would imagine if they were too high, they would use a little novo rapid to get it down some. :)

Hi Larry

See that is exactly the thinking I thought they’d have but no obviously. Yeah I did ask if they could operate in the afternoon and let me take some of my novorapid but they couldn’t as said it was too risky basically.
Also said because of my sugars being slightly higher they couldn’t operate as the rate of infection to the implants increases from about 3% to 25%.
So yeah when they said that I just accepted.
Good news though is I got the letter from my surgery today confirming my re scheduled operation at the end of June so gives me a couple more weeks at work to earn some dough before I’m off for a while

That's great news. My fingers are crossed for your sugar levels for the end of June. :)
