PSA Test

It's been a little over 3 months since my surgery to remove my prostate. I had my first PSA evaluation since the surgery today. The doc says hopefully the level will be .02 or under. I will get my results in the morning. He did an evaluation of my progress and was pleased with the results. Zero incontinence and even though know full erection yet the fact that I am getting any movement below the waste line this early in my recovery is a good sign. He said generally at 3 months most men are still "flat lining" down there. He says to try to stimulate everyday whether by pump, Viagra, etc. So all in all I am encouraged but will still be anxious to hear my PSA results. If all goes well I won't have to see him until spring 2011. I will post again tomorrow w/ PSA results.

Thanks Mike. I guess after my next psa in the spring, I'll have the test annually as well. You said your surgery was 8 years ago? Do they continue to do the psa evaluations or is there a time when they consider it unnecessary. I don't mind the testing, I was just curious.

Congrats on the test results. Like you I have gone thru the process. They tested my PSA every 6 mos for about 18 mos and then went to a yearly test- so far so good! They will do the PSA forever to keep an eye on things. Mine is done as part of my blood work with my annual physical so no big deal.

Keep working things below the belt as activity seems to help him wake up. I found it was the kind of therapy that was fun.

Hey RB,

Wonderful news! Hope they're all 0.1 or less...forever.

I've got my 18 month post-op PSA coming up...Got some stage jitters. Hoping for an undetectable.

BA
Age 54.
Open RRP in May of 2009. Gleason at biopsy, 3+3. Gleason after surgery, 3+4 with extra-prostatic extension. Stage III cancer. No incontinence issues. ED issues. Trimix for 5 months. Now, levitra alone is working at 10 mG.

Hey BA, wishing you good results as well!. I know what you mean about having jitters, it's like you're feeling good, surgery is behind you, trying to get back to normal and then the PSA evaluation looms. In the back of your mind you wonder if you'll get kicked in the gut again like when we were first diagnosed. It's in God's hands man. Good luck :)
