Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for ED treatment?

Postby personfromon » Wed Sep 07, 2022 12:11 pm

Hey Franktalk members,

I am wondering if anyone here has used Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in order to treat their erectile dysfunction? A friend told me he was speaking to someone who bought one (not cheap--around a $50K price tag) and was using it daily for other issues, and found that much stronger erections were a side effect that he had not expected.

If you don't know what HOT is, this is from the Mayo Clinic website:
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a well-established treatment for decompression sickness, a potential risk of scuba diving. Other conditions treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy include serious infections, bubbles of air in your blood vessels, and wounds that may not heal as a result of diabetes or radiation injury.

In a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, the air pressure is increased two to three times higher than normal air pressure. Under these conditions, your lungs can gather much more oxygen than would be possible breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure.

When your blood carries this extra oxygen throughout your body, this helps fight bacteria and stimulate the release of substances called growth factors and stem cells, which promote healing.

In addition, this therapy can allegedly induce penile angiogenesis.

This study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30089290/ also had promising results in regards to using HOT as an ED treatment.

In any case, has anyone on this forum tried this treatment? What was your experience with it? Any input here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Here's a small thread derail the thread brought to mind:

I have mild diabetes, well controlled with metformin, which may explain why it takes wounds on my legs considerably longer to heal than wounds found elsewhere. I'm sure age doesn't help either. Anyhow, I have at times taken a reduced daily dose (50mg) of sildenafil for ED therapy (I think I also read it may help prevent Alzheimer's too, but I can't remember for sure). My very un-scientific tentative observation is that when I do take daily sildenafil my leg wounds heal faster. Don't rely on my tentative observation for anything. More just a musing than anything else.

Sorry about the thread derail.

I've never tried HOT but it has been mentioned several times on these forums. It is a brilliant treatment and not just for ED, diabetics use it as well. It seems that HOT may also rejuvenate your skin but I'm not entirely sure about this.

Could you point me to the threads? I'm actually a type 1 diabetic, and assume that to be the cause of my ED so this could be a good avenue for me regardless.

Guys, don't get your hopes up. Supplemental oxygen is a standard treatment for sleep apnea. I've used oxygen during sleeping for around 10 years. No improvements but it is not used in a chamber. Diabetics use it to help treat infections from their diabetes impaired capillaries . My nephew had to use it several times. Btw, his diabetes finally killed him.

I've actually heard that sleep apnea can influence ED. Maybe a man in his 30s or 40s would see more benefit from getting his sleep apnea under control with increased oxygen or use of a cpap. I'm saying if that was the only health issue maybe it could help.
I just hope I don't have a sleeping disorder that is contributing to my sexual health concerns.

I've pretty much decided that any condition that strikes men exclusively or is more common than in women is a possible ED influencer.
Having been through it. I'm going to tell you that getting long term therapy for apnea might be as difficult & expensive as an implant.
Insurance requires you to wear a monitor attached to your finger overnight. If the results show a significant oxygen drop then you'll be sent to a sleep study center. You'll sleep in a bed hooked up to all kinds of monitors. You are on camera all night. The staff can remotely change the cpap that you're hooked up to. They also can change the oxygen that you receive. Your doctor will be provided a report stating the settings that your cpap machine needs to be set at. Yes, they are adjustable. Also, supplemental oxygen is almost always required. So a cpcp machine can cost around $1500 usd, not sure but an oxygen concetrator might be a similar fee. No idea what the 2 sleep studies cost but the monitored overnight one is staffed by several medical technicians. Aslo, the oxygen requires yearly servicing.
If you think hiding your implant from a date is difficult? Try hiding all of the apnea equipment & hoses. Not even a chance with a blind girl cause they do make noise.
Bottom line. Despite all the internet rumors about ED cures. The fears in your mind which are likely unfounded. Maybe even based upon urban legends. The implant is the best overall treatment for ED. Do you really think that all the men with implants. Most of whom say they're very pleased, are fools or liars?
Its implants for the win.
I'll offer you a test that might give you an indication of if you have mild apnea. What is the elevation where you live. My oldest brothers lungs were rotted out from being an uranium miner. Used oxygen constantly. Stayed in southern Arizona at a very low elevation during the winter. He used less oxygen per day when he was there. The air contains more oxygen the lower you are in elevation. Try staying as near as sea level as you can for a month. See if you feel better. Also personal blood oxygen monitors are relatively cheap. If your resting oxygen levels are normal, its very unlikely that you have apnea. At your next doctors appointment, the nurse will test it for free if you ask her to.
