I've been shaving down there for years.
It took a while to find the right razor. I use a Gillette triple blade disposable, which has very thin and flexible blades to conform to the surface. It's also open at the back which allows flushing the stubble out with a strong stream of water in the shower.
Also, CREMO shave cream works best for me. The ladies formulation with Aloe is best for sensitive areas, but is sometimes hard to find.

Here's the razor.

My wife is lucky, she has very little pubic hair, and none on her legs or underarms.
She plucks her pubes.
She offered to do mine, but it would take days, and doesn't sound all that fun to me.

I have always shaved.
Twisting the topic a little. Say you work at Gillette Labs where they are constantly working to create a better pubic hair razor. You are in the office when Research and Development pages you. You go to the back and try their new razor. 20 minutes later you return to the office and twenty of your male and female co-workers are all smiling. Okay.
