HCG vs. Clomid - Which is Better for Low Ts?
HCG vs. Clomid - Which is Better for Low Ts?
Hello all! My uro prescribed me Clomid for my low T count. But I've read a few horror stories about it that it lowers libido. I was thinking about trying HCG instead. Has anyone tried it? Did it cause any lowering of libido?
ED since 1996. Peyronies in 2012. PRP in 2013 and 2017. Dr. Brock, urology, NC, USA. Cialis and Viagra stopped working since 10/2017. Haven't been on Trimix since 3/2016. Will consider injecting it again. Will be prescribed testosterone injections soon.

I just recently started Clomid and its difficult to say on how it has effected my libido. I haven't seen an increase or decrease. I will be going for a blood test in November which will be 2 months that I've have been on Clomid. I will post my results after the results of my test.

Ignore whatever you've heard about Clomid. where on earth are you reading this???
Clomid makes your testes produce more testosterone. It will increase your sex drive. Drs usually put guys on Clomid when they need to maintain sperm count. If you go on testosterone, your testes will shut down sperm production and you will not be able to sire children.
Your testes make testosterone out of cholesterol. Your body turns your testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, free testosterone and estrogen (and a few other things). Your pituitary measures how much estrogen you have to decide whether or not your testes need to produce more testosterone. Clomid blocks the estrogen...making your pituitary call for more testosterone production.

Re: HCG vs. Clomid - Which is Better for Low Ts?
The one thing I've seen and there might be credence to that is that HCG mimics Luteinizing Hormone which is what makes the testes produce more testosterone and that over time if you're not careful with the dose that you could become LH insensitive. If you then go off of HCG your testicles may not respond to natural LH production. There's a guy over at the Mens Health Low T forum that is literally a big experiment for all this and recommends HCG to maintain testicle size while on T but to watch the dosage carefully.
Many guys that I've followed didn't have good results with HCG alone. Better results with Clomid but ultimately used a combination of T therapy and HCG. Looking back I wish my doc had put me on Clomid first to see if it would boost my T instead of going directly to T.
Right now my testicles have shrank over 60% in size and become soft because of T injections. This isn't a worry to me because I've had my kids and i'm now completely sterile so the wife and I can enjoy sex without worrying about pregnancy. The upside of testicle shrinkage is that it makes a small guy like me look a bit bigger!
Overall I'd probably follow the clomid treatment first to see if T increases naturally and move on from there.
