I've been buying 4 syringes loaded with T to take one each week. I get it at the GP doc and pay $70 for the 4.
I was at my compounding pharmacy today buying my tri-mix and just for kicks I asked if they sold the T I am using.
They said they do sell it and it comes unmixed like the tri-mix I'm getting.
I told him what I'm paying and he said for $60. I'd get a vial good for 25 injections.
I don't think my GP would allow me to be that free for that long a time, but I'd really like to find out.
I do plan to address it with him next month, but am afraid I already know the answer.
Not only is the $17.50 a pop a nice thing for them, but he's deathly afraid of running afoul of the feds with a controlled substance
(he claims). I have to have my T level checked every 3 months.
Maybe he'll let me get enough of the mix it yourself stuff to just last 3 months?
I'll post back when I find out, but I'd like to not get hosed.

Re: Testosterone cost
I give my own injections once every two weeks 1ml. I get these from the VA a whole month or two injections for just a $9.99 co-pay. If you are a veteran you might want to try that.

Interesting, I am a vet but haven't been going to the VA. It's not very convenient, but we'll see if I have to go that route.

If you didn't sign up earlier I doubt they will take you now. I think the latest is about 2008 you could sign up........good luck!

Re: Testosterone cost
I signed up at the VA around 1999 or thereabouts. I haven't gone back since I got on Medicare in 03.
I was at the doc today and he absolutely refused to trust me to mix my own testosterone with diluent, fill syringes and inject myself.
I figure if I were able to get the stuff and my own syringes, it would cost $3 a shot tops.
The doc's office charges $20 a pop even when I self inject. I may just stop taking it rather than get hosed by them.

Re: Testosterone cost
I went to the compounding pharmacy and asked if they could tell me which docs would prescribe the testosterone in kit for.
They gave me a list 2 pages long and one doc is just a mile from me and I've gone to him before. He's also a GP and if things work out, I'll make him my new GP.
My old GP has rules and maybe they rub me the wrong way?
Why do they make us feel like criminals just for trying to survive and save a couple bucks?

Re: Testosterone cost
OK, I went to a new doctor whom I've used in the past for back pain.
He was receptive to my being trusted to mix and shoot 5 months worth of Testosterone myself.
He was empathetic about my other doc not wanting to do it, but maybe it was professional courtesy?
Now, I have to go to the compounder and get it filled. I'm sure there will be some discrepancy about the prescription,
But at least it's progress.
I'll report back on the total cost. I will have to buy the big assed syringes.

Re: Testosterone cost
Are you guys speaking of generic Depo-testosterone (Testosterone cypionate)? According to your dose, unless you are are extremely deficient in T, one bottle should last a long time and I will guess cost at $80-$95. Because of its abuse in body building (sports, etc) and often serious side effects, it is a Schedule III control drug. b

Yeah, Billy, that's the stuff. I was paying $70 for 4 syringes at the doc's office. One red flag to me was they charged $85 if I used credit or debit cards. What's up with that? I always suspect the worst and wonder if they sold the cash stuff under-the-table?
Maybe I'll mention that to the doc when I see him again in case he asks.
The new doc who gave me the prescription yesterday doesn't take my Aetna plan F Medicare supplement for some reason.

What strength? Was a vial never mentioned? Were these 1 ml/cc syringes?
I will do some checking at work tomorrow .... At least to fair price, however I do not believe any insurance will pay. To many things going against coverage, just like Viagra it is abused, and it is a control substance. more later. billy
