Combatting Performance Anxiety

So....

I know most people here have a natural cause for their ED.

But some may very well have a deep deep psychogenic cause.

And in all cases, whether there is a physical or psych cause, anxiety about performance the next time around will hit!

It cannot be understated.

You get stressed, you enter 'fight or flight' mode. Stress response kicks in. Adrenaline, norepinephrine, the whole shabang are released into your blood stream to tighten you up, get the heart racing, ready for battle.

What is one thing you don't need in battle? A hard on.

Yes, for erections to adequately occur, we need to be aroused, relaxed, calm, excited. Not scared.

So, does anyone know of any effective techniques to shut this process off or at least lessen it, such as anti anxiety pills?

I have heard stories of people using propranolol and the like to settle them when they're about to engage.

But of course there are many reports of negative interactions between beta blockers and PDEs.

Are there any KNOWN medications for first line mental stabilisation for sexual performance.

Of course there are exercises, mindfulness etc but is there anything pharmacological?

It's just the last test I had they said I just have mad psychogenic ED that is so out of control but on testing I had 'huge' inflow and reverse outflow. So no VL. Which is contrary to the first test I had on the national health service but still. My mental element is huge. I want to neutralise it.

Hi Defiant, Well what you need is a nice dose of meditation, not sure if you can get that on the good old NHS, but do google stress and meditation your find lots of help by just doing that.

Good Luck

Some times I have taken a very low dose of Xanax....so low my Doc said it's not doing anything...However, I do feel more relaxed. Whether it's the placebo effect or I'm sensitive to the Xanax,,( which I am to most meds anyway)..it will work...at times...My ED is physically based, having heart disease, but it's compounded by the anxiety associated with.."Oh no, here we go again" thoughts, feelings etc..One drink at times works, and sometimes nothing works...It's an unpredictable element of sex that's difficult to over come...I say experiment a bit if you have an understanding partner...

I cannot tell you how to handle the anxiety. For me that is one thing I just tell myself to deal with and do it so no issue. The higher I keep my testosterone, the braver I am no matter what I am dealing with. In other words I do not doubt myself or question myself and move boldly ahead in whatever as long as I can keep it in the 900 -1200 range. at 7 I doubt my ability at anything. Another is the beta blocker. Beta blockers can cause ED. I take 50mg extended release metoprolol 2x a day plus a couple others. One of the damned if you do and damned again if you don't things. Dr. Brandes said that having high BP for years and then bringing it back to normal is an issue with ED also as your body gets used to working at high pressure and then cannot operate at low pressure but then high pressure can also cause ED over time.
Keeping T high works best for me. Study T and you will find level of aggression or risk one is willing to take is dose related.

Alibaba,

Forgive my ignorance but aren't you implanted? Does adapting your T levels matter as long as it's in a normal range?

Do you take supplements then?

How's your ability now?

Yes I am implanted but I dealt with ED from 1997 to 2016. Actually still do with this unreliable implant. Second guessing whether I am going to be able perform has been 1/3rd of my life now. I do not comment lightly just to babble.
