Testosterone Replacement Post Prostectomy

Thirteen years ago my prostate was removed and thankfully I am cancer free. Now, at age 64, I am showing many of the symptoms of low T. I asked my primary care doctor about using T replacement meds but was shot down. Are any forum members who are cancer survivors without a prostate using T replacement meds?

I still have my prostate, but it's the size of a watermelon.
I self inject T and the cost is quite reasonable.
I was getting the script from my GP, but yesterday, I switched it to my Uro.
He asked what it cost, and couldn't believe it's $60 for 25 shots (one a week).

If you don't know whom to get to write the script, ask a compounding pharmacy which doctors write them.
That worked for me.

By the way, whoever writes it will have to check you blood every 6 months. I don't know why they would if you have no prostate though. It's probably a law? I don't think you'd have a PSA problem.

I had prostate cancer through my 40's and prostate removed at 50 when the cancer started to grow rapidly. PSA has been <0.1 since. Doctors were reluctant to give me T despite total testosterone scores that varied between 8 to a high of 234. After 3 years of wrangling, several doctors and then a study that said it was safe after 2 years of negative PSA I was granted testosterone. It has been a major help to get through my day. We do a PSA test on every blood draw no matter the reason for the draw to make sure.

To answer the question why it makes a difference if you do not have a prostate: Prostate cancer cells can break off and migrate to any part of your body. Those escape cells will grow and produce the PSA antigen which is how it is easily detected. Where those escaped cells are growing you have prostate cancer. Removal of the gland does not always guarantee all of the disease is gone, only the disease that is contained in what was removed.

I was using the "gel" before and after my prostrate removal (robotic surgery) until my Insurance company wouldn't pay ... I then switched to Clomifene / clomiphene (Testosterone Alternative).

Alibaba, thanks for the update on that. Obviously, I didn't know that. I had a cousin who developed bone cancer after having prostate cancer. There's always something to worry about.

I have to have Mohs surgery on my ear for Basal cell cancer tomorrow. I'm not too worried about it, but I hope it doesn't keep me off the golf course.

Hi Artist, There's a post just below this on Clomid, Clomthene its got 3 links that are helpful, you just really need to watch out for levels estrogen rising, there's some answers on that to and things to watch for all without a blood test, but a blood test would be best. OK
