Supra pubic catheter

Postby radioradio » Tue Jan 24, 2017 6:58 am

Am headed for robotic RP on March 1st and have been doing lots of research. (FrankTalk being by far the most helpful.)
Has anyone had the supra pubic catheter instead of the penile catheter? Any complications? Any advice on the decision? My surgeon said he has done many, and would do the same for me, but I never really got any info on the implications other than the elimination of six days of hell. -- I had a catheter for one night after my biopsy, and can't imagine 6 days like that. Anyone?

P.S. I originally posted this in "implants" by mistake.

Yes Radio,
I had an SP after my Robotic Prostatectomy back in October 2016.
I had a Penile Catheter overnight that was taken out the next morning and the SP for 2 weeks. The SP was no problem whatsoever. I was a little worried that it was going to hurt when they removed it, but there was nothing to it....no pain at all...just a very quick weird feeling.
From what I have read on other forums, 1 or 2 weeks with a penile catheter is pretty tough to handle.
I was very happy that my Surgeon did the SP.

Good luck with all.. .you will do great!

I had "regular" catheter (I didn't know there was any other type) for 8 days following an RP almost 5 years ago.

The catheter was a breeze to deal with compared to the permanent effects of an RP.
RP in 2012 because of prostate cancer. 100% ED, also some leakage problems.

Thanks for the input. Happy to hear the SP was good for you. Hoping for the same.
