Pfizer sells a drug called Revatio which contains the same active ingredient (sildenafil citrate) as Viagra for treatment of Pulminary Arterial Hypertension. The does is 20 mg and it is just as expensive as Viagra but, I understand, that is is covered by some insurance companies. Revatio will come of patent in March, 2012 at which time a cheap generic should become available (as opposed to Viagra which will retain patent protection until 2019).
Has anyone either been prescribed Revatio for ED so that it will be covered by insurance? Has anyone heard anything about a generic of Revatio becoming available next year?
Is it be legal for a US doctor to prescribe Revatio for ED - an "off label" use?
Many thanks.
