Hallfighter4,
Sorry to hear of your difficulties.
Libido and arousal can both be whacked by our brains. Either psychologically, hormonally or organically. I found that when my ED was "under control" with the pills, my libido was "normal". As they became less effective my libido dropped. I'm not a doc or a therapist, but my theory is that low libido can be a defense mechanism for our ego, protecting us from the emotional pain that comes from non-performance. That's the psychology part, at least for me.
Libido is also affected by hormone levels. I have been treated for low testosterone for 16 years (Androgel) except for the first nine months after my prostate cancer diagnosis. During those nine months my libido was much lower, but still present. If I had had no libido, I probably would not have gone through with the implant or revision. Now that my testosterone level is back up in the mid-normal range, if I'm awake, I'm thinking about sex.
(I think that's pretty normal, though my wife doesn't agree.)
And last, I think low libido can be from organic abnormalities in our brains. I know that actual physical changes in our brains can affect/cause depression, so I'm guessing there are physical changes in the brain or it's connections that could cause a drop in libido. That's just a hunch.
Have you had your testosterone checked?
Bob
