All the pumps do the same thing, they each have their own preference or style. If you are
using your pump for ED, you will want to stay with a good medical style brand and buy from
the pump site or medical store, there is a lot of junk being sold online. Just make sure
you buy one of the brands that has been mentioned here in Frank Talk, they have all been
tested and proven by guys here. Each guy is different and each guy may or may not like
what you like. My advice would be just buy a good brand pump and discover things for
yourself, you will learn as you go. But, listen to what the guys are saying in here, they have
the experience and the knowledge.

I just got an Encore battery/ manual at Vitality Medical. Works great and is designed to place the constriction ring on the base of your penis when pump erects it. I bought one on Amazon that had a gauge so that you didn’t pump too much but you can’t slide the ring onto your penis due to the thick lip at end of tube. Hope this helps!

In my opinion, a vacuum is a vacuum; and it does not matter how it is generated.

The differences between the "novelty" VEDs you can get at a sex toy shop, one you assemble yourself from spare parts or a medical grade high-end pump may be significant, though.

How you create and maintain the seal and exactly where you are able to make the seal

How you regulate the pressure (negative pressure) so it is enough to get an erection but easy to keep low enough that you do not injure yourself.

Application of a constriction ring (if you will be using one - for sex, for example. Using a VED. for therapy does not require a constriction ring) might be easier with a medical-grade VED. I have no opinion on this point.
