Today I can finally declare success, almost four years since I tried an inexpensive pump for rehab after my surgery. That pump wasn't meant for intercourse, I just used it to retain the blood flow, but liked that it had a gauge so I could tell how much vacuum I was using. Turns out that 5Hg is just about right, no matter what pump you use.
After about 6 months I thought of using it for intercourse and even tried a ring I had but couldn't sustain an erection at all, and was bothered by all the hardware, so I gave up on the pump. I then went the route of pills, which gave me lots of stuffy noses and blue vision without giving me an erection good enough for intercourse. After that I tried trimix and had the usual issues with giving myself shots, and then a bit of Peyrones that set it. I thought about an implant, but from reading this board I thought a good medical grade pump might help before going to the final frontier. It sure did, but I couldn't have done it without reading a lot of the hints and descriptions from so many of you.
So, in the spirit of giving back, here is what worked for me. I tried the Encore and the Vacurect, along with some Osbon rings and a foam penis sleeve. I practiced with all of that for a couple of weeks, and what finally worked best for me was a Vacurect with the largest seal, pumping a bit with that to get some blood flowing then, when ready for intercourse, I put on a D size osbon ring above the seal and pump the rest of the way. I also put on a bit of that water soluble jell to make the seal and ring go on easier. Even though I had the osbon ring on, the blood flows through with the vaccum and fills the penis. The instructions say to start with the largest seal and then get smaller, but I don't like how the small seals get so tight and are hard to get off. The Osbon ring comes off much easier when finished. The trick is to pump slowly, being patient to let the penis fill. I could tell it was full when I began feeling what I hadn't felt since I was in my 20s. I then remove the pump but leave both the seal and the ring on. Intercourse was not a problem at all with both of those on, either in the spoon or below positions. I could have easily lasted the 30 minutes max but decided to stop after 10 for safety. I took the ring and seal off just with lube and gently pushing.
So I feel like we've regained our intimacy and I thank all of you guys on this board who have shared your experiences. The vacurect may not work for everyone, but I like its compact size and simple design. I'm sure the Encore would also work well, as would other brands, I just chose to go with the vacurect.

Hey Reachout!
That sounds like a great success story. Though I have gone for 30 minutes with an Osbon on, I find that after 20 minutes, my erection becomes quite numb with loss of sensation. Accordingly, I shoot for orgasm within 20 minutes. Not sure how the Vacurect Seal works, but I use an AMS and only slide on the Osbon. Makes my erection look and feel more like a "natural" erection.
Anyway, good luck and happy pumping.

Do the Osbon rings work well with the Vacurect? Having the Vaurect ring on, it doesn't feel like realistic sex...hard to explain. Also it hinged a lot. I think hinge is the right word. All in all , just hard to work with. (no pun intended!)
Re: Success!
and my wife didn't like it. She couldn't explain why...just didn't like the experience. We have only used it one time.

Do you get a numb feeling? ... it's typical, usually gets that way after 15-20 min. with a tight ring.

You might try the Foam Sleeve to help with the hinge effect ...

Re: Success!
Thanks for the replies, just an update. Rather than use both the vacurect seal and the osbon ring, the other day I tried (by myself) just the seal, but with the same diameter as the osbon ring. It worked great, but it fit so tight that I was close to reaching for scissors to cut it off. I came to my senses soon enough, and used firm pressure to reduce the erection and finally got it off. After that, wife and I tried the large seal by itself, but it wasn't enough to hold the erection, so went back to the combo seal and osbon ring, which worked great. We could stay with this combo, but I think just the one seal would feel a lot better, that ring is a bit tight. Next thing I'll try is the next smaller seal which, by the way, is what the Vacurect manual says to do. When all else fails, RTFM.

I also have a Vacurect and like it, although it is the only pump I've ever had. I have never tried having sex with it, although I do use it in the shower so I can economize my time by showering and pumping at the same time.
Do you mind sharing surgery details? Did you have prostate cancer?

RP in 2012 because of prostate cancer. 100% ED, also some leakage problems.
