Why use a VED?

So I am using the stock rings that came with the Impoaid. They work but are uncomfortable as I need to use a pretty tight one. I've heard about alternatives - what do you guys use? Are they an improvement over the Impoaids?

I use a nylon stocking in a slip loop tourniquet fashion when I masturbate, (I wasn't a boy scout and that's the best I can describe it).
Anyway, it's easy on and easy off; as a mater of fact, I believe I'll try it again in a few hours.

Im in the OPs boat, I bought the most expensive medical grade VED there is and found it impossible to get any sort of erection with it.

It pumped so tight that it was painful but was still only a semi, and the rings feel like they are strangulating the base.

I could get a better erection with nothing than with them, and to this day are still the only ED treatment I cannot fathom at all.

I couldnt even manage it alone, let alone fumbling around with it in front of someone.

I can understand pills and them working or not working, I can understand the pros and cons of injections and implants, but VEDs to me just simply do not work.

You don't need an expensive pump and cylinder, just one that's sized correctly for your erect girth, and a constriction band that will keep the blood in your unit after you pump it up, and you'll have to experiment with different sizes until you find the right one. The only way a pump won't work is if you can't get blood into your dick, and if that's the case it would've fallen off by now!
You have to load the band onto the pump prior to pumping up and then slip it off the pump while you're still erect in the pump. It can be tricky, but when you do it right the band will come off around the base right before you break the vacuum seal.
IT DOES WORK, you just have to have the right sized equipment, and pump up slowly once you do. Use lube all over your dick, and around the pump base. Hold the pump against your (trimmed) pubic area, get a good seal, and pump about 5-7 times, wait for 10 seconds and repeat until your dick is fully erect, then work the band off the cylinder without losing the vacuum. If you push the cylinder down a little, easy, and start rolling the band off from the top that works the best. Once it starts rolling off just keeping working around the sides and it will pop off the rest of the way on its own. By then the cylinder will have released, and if you have the right size band it will maintain your erection.
The bands come in different sizes, and you can't get one just by measuring your girth, it has to be strong enough to keep the blood in your dick without strangling it, so like I said, experiment with different sizes.

I have had pretty good luck with the Pos-T-Vac Mach rings. Just have to experiment with the the various sizes to see what works best.

As to the OP's original question, I first distinguish between the two entirely different use cases for a ved: 1) just for penile rehabilitation (to get the blood flowing); 2) for use with a constriction ring for sex.

I've never had to use it for the latter but try to regularly exercise with it for the former. In the beginning, I purchased a relatively expensive (but still not medical grade) VED that worked perfectly well. But then I purchased a cheap one off Amazon that is just as good. They both have battery powered pumps and pressure gauges. I don't see the need to spend hundreds of dollars for a VED.

Another thing that makes a big difference is if, and what, you use to get a good seal against your pubic bone. I've tried a bunch of different rings and the best I have is one that has a relatively massive piece of silicone that fits the end of the tube and then comfortably seals against my body. But I prefer one that is also a massive piece of silicone PLUS a shaft long inner casing that completely surrounds my guy. This requires a lot of lubrication to be able to get into the sleeve but the comfort and protection is worth it IMO.

As to the time that pumping is a "waste of time" , I find it fairly easy to do other things while the pump is in place. I lie prone in bed with the VED in place and propped up by a pillow and then my two hands are free to use my phone or tablet to do whatever computer based projects I have.

Well said. I would add that LeLuv sells round-edge cylinders that eliminate the need for any silicone, or other, seals, and are still quite comfortable.
Pumping is a great way to maintain penile health by infusing fresh blood into a penis that is no longer getting nocturnal, or even spontaneous daytime erections. It is definitely not a device that's used just for sex.
Incorporating an every other day, or every third day, pump routine is very helpful to your penis. Keep in mind to not go over a safe maximum pressure of 5hg., or extended times under pressure, and over time you might find nocturnal erections return, a sort of reset of the system. Even if this doesn't eventually happen you'll still be stopping the atrophy and shrinkage of your package that will happen from not getting erections.
Here is a suggestion for tension rings I found that work good. If you get the three different sizes I'm sure one of them would work for most guys. They are soft, stretchy, and don't "snap" shut on you when you roll them off your cylinder, even the round-flange style mentioned above.
I found if you do order a too large of size of these, and it isn't tight enough to hold your erection, they'll usually send you a smaller size for free if you call them. I have a 6" girth and found I needed the #6 to work for me. Remember also, they advise you to not leave any bands on for longer than 30 minutes, but I don't go longer than 20 as a personal preference for PIV sex.

Why not get an implant, instead of using a VED, the OP asks? in my case the VED and rings work fine. To receive a modern implant, I am not brave enough to accept the prospect of surgery in three places and having a reservoir. If I was unable to use a pump and had no other choice, I'd get an implant. There are new implant techniques on the horizon that are said to be just as effective and far less complex, surgically, and this may be something to consider, in the future. I have tremendous respect for all who have gone the implant route.
