I bought one on amazon for not a lot of money. I don’t use it for intercourse but have Ed and was hoping to rejuvenate my dick a bit after years of ED maybe get some length back before the inevitable implant surgery. who knows. It worked pretty well, could get good engorgement to about 6-61/2 inches, but then read something that they can actually cause problems.

What VED did you buy? has it got different size tubes? I think its better if you using it with different sizes and find out which suits you best, allways be carefull when pumping up, don't over strech your penis, any pain stop, take your time for your let your penis to get used to the streaching.

I think VEDs are plenty safe, if you're reasonable in their use. Go slow! It will get somewhat easier with experience. Don't leave your dick under vacuum for extended periods. You want to do cycles. Pump up, hold and release, repeat, repeat, repeat. Don't dry to achieve maximum current size on the first cycle. Don't try to achieve your original youthful size for awhile, probably weeks to months, if ever. Forcing things creates the opportunity for damage.

I overpumped once and got edema. It resolved by itself in a few days without intervention. Others report having caused permanent damage - even caused E.D. where previously there was no problem.

But I do recommend pumping, as it emulates the normal, healthful daily (usually nocturnal) erections men get which maintain penile elasticity and flushing oxygenated blood through penile tissues.

As I wrote in another thread:

Good luck. I used a pump (Vacuum Erection Device or V.E.D.) and used it according to two medically approved protocols I found in some medical journals.

Protocol 1: Pump up to full erection and keep it there for about 30 minutes. Do this two times each day. Do not use constriction ring. Keep the erection inside the VED. Do not pump up to too much vacuum or you can do damage to your penis tissues.

This maintains elasticity and size (length and girth).

Protocol 2: Pump up to full erection and keep it there for 1 minute, then release the vacuum. Then repeat. Do this for 30 minutes.

This maintains elasticity and size (length and girth) in addition to flushing blood through your tissues to maintain oxygen levels for tissue health.


Both these protocols seem to substitute for the naturally occurring erections men get throughout the day and night (which you are now missing - temporarily, I hope). These periodic erections are important for penile health.

A VED is intended to be used to generate and maintain an erection. Accordingly. For this purpose it need not be used for more than a few minutes at a vacuum level that at most results in only slight discomfort. If you keep within these parameters, it is unlikely you will encounter any edema issues or problems.

However, if you are using a pump to gain size or for therapy. You should be using a system that includes a vacuum gauge. Under these circumstances, the rule of thumb is not to exceed 15 minutes under vacuum and not exceed 5 inches of mercury (5 hg) in order to prevent problems.if you want to remain longer under vacuum, it is important that you reduce the vacuum level.

However, each guy’s dick responds differently to a vacuum so if you want to pump beyond the parameters of VED pumping, there is no guarantee you will avoid injury.

I am also by no means a medical professional, but I have been using Both a VED Pump and a pump system for penile enhancement for over ten years.

I just asked on another thread if this was a prescription, and I guess the answer is 'no'.

VEDs are very safe, its the operater thats needs to learn how and what to use them for.
I us use the Soma correct and erect units, you get 3 sizes of cylinders with the correct unit and a XL cylinder with the erect unit, so this covers all sizes up 8 x 8.
3 inch when i start a session 7 inch after, is that normal, a 4 inch strech.

The medical grade pumps used to be prescription but I don't think any are now. If you want a medical grade pump it still may be worth getting a script for it depending on your insurance. It may be covered by insurance with a prescription.

bldoink is correct in that some private insurance carriers may cover a VED. However, Medicare is no longer covering VEDs. If your private insurance does not cover a VED, the prescription may let you deduct the cost as a medical expense.
