Medical grade pump vs non-medical

Postby sidb416 » Sun Nov 01, 2020 3:50 pm

Hi All,

New to this but I am 35 and have been experiencing pretty bad ED for about 5 years now. I think I have venous leak. I am seeing a urologist soon. Wondering if I should go with a medical grade pump (like the Augusta system, Osbon Erecaid etc). Are the medical grade pumps superior to other ones like the Bathmate? Keep hearing about how good the Bathmate is. I am about 5 inches erect on a very good day. My intention is to get the biggest erection possible, for theraputic/maintenance purposes.

Would appreciate any input.

Thanks in advance,

Sid

IMHO Bathmate is too cumbersome. It produces a pleasant experience since it uses warm water but you pretty much have to bathe everytime you use it. It's just too clunky. My advice is to wait for the Urologist appt. and have him/her prescribe one. That way insurance will at least pay for all or some of a medical grade unit

Don't use Erecaid, I bought one and it broke after a year. Far to short a time for the money. Just go for a cheapy and replace every few months.

I’ve been using the Encore VED for about 9 months. It cost around $130.00 has manual and battery, assorted rings and other stuff. I’ve been pleased with it, have gained maybe 1/2 inch which puts me also at 5 inches on good day!

I've been using an Erecaid for quite a few years. The little release button to separate the two parts of the device used to place rings on the tube broke fairly early on. It doesn't matter as it works just fine without using the release button. They should have just omitted that part. Otherwise I've found it to be very well built, at least well build for something that ought to cost about $60. The sex shop pumps that actually do cost about $60 or less I've found to be worth $30 max. They don't hold up well. If bought on sale I guess they're worth what you pay, but they definitely aren't the quality of the Erecaid, etc. Short version: With the cheap ones you probably get near what you pay for them. The medical grade are definitely much better but no you aren't getting as much as you pay for. You do get some free sex out of the deal if you have to pay the whole freight on your own so bring your lube because you're going to get f...... I will add that the medical grade outfits are generally more comfortable to use. Thicker cylinders or something.

Go ahead and get a cheap one. You won't be out much money. Just please use caution as you can cause permanent damage if you get carried away. Don't be one of the foolish guys.

Thanks everyone. Some good food for thought. I'll chat with my urologist too but just from some basic research I've done the Encore pump seems to be well received. I could be wrong..

there was a thread a while back wherein a parts list was posted showing how you could take a really cheap sex-novelty-store vacuum pump cylinder and tubing, connect it to an automotive store vacuum pump for well under $50. And it even included a vacuum gauge. Not much can go wrong with a cylinder. The vacuum pump is industrial-grade and probably more durable and less expensive than a medical device and the vacuum gauge is a good safety factor not included on many medical-grade devices.

NOT included in this (assembled) device are constriction rings, applicator for constriction rings or fancy packaging. So, it would be most suited for therapy, not for sex, though one could use it for both.

I have adapted the metal pump (above) to a cheap tube ... and have used it for 4 yrs. with no problems ... not bad for $40 ...

I used a vacuum cleaner for a while. But there was not enough suction and the motor tended to overheat rather quickly from lack of air flow (for cooling). After I got my (prescribed) VED, I figured out that there was insufficient vacuum. Only after that did the homemade recipe get posted to FrankTalk.

Thanks Lost Sheep. I think it would be wise to invest in a theraputic pump as well (not for sex)? In your experience are the medical grade pumps powerful enough/effective in getting the best possible erection? Or are the cheaper ones with a gage better? If so, any suggested ones that can be bought online? Sorry, I am bit new to all of this--I should do more reading, as suggested by your signature.

It depends on the reason for the pump. For everyday therapeutic usage a comfortable air vacuum pump works great.
To use for sex by pumping up and adding restriction ring(s) you would be better served with a medical grade pump.

I use both water and air for daily "exercises" and a medical grade for sex. For daily use I find a $17.00 LeLuv pump works great.
There is a learning curve for all kinds. Some types have a steeper curve than others.
Married 50+ years. Use VED for sex and do
daily exercises with both water and vacuum pumps.

Every medical grade pump (and remember, I have experience with only one) are powerful enough to give you "the best possible erection". That is what they are designed to do. Cheaper ones can do the same job. Sufficient negative pressure outside your penis from ANY source will do that. (Unfortunately, a human's mouth is not powerful enough, so fellatio is out unless you have some erectile function remaining to help the suction get the job done. ) (edited to add; Vacuum cleaner has insufficient vacuum, too, in my experience and if running too long, the motor tends to overheat from lack of airflow. But if it is all you have, you can get at least a partial erection.)

The cheaper models will not have convenience or safety features (padded tube ends, ease of operating the pump, battery power, pressure relief/safety features, etc).

So, with a homemade device it will be necessary for you to avoid over-pumping where a medical grade device might have a pressure-limiting device (one can cause edema---or worse by too much vacuum!) where a homemade device will depend on you to tell by experience where the dangerous level is.

But to answer your question simply. A medical device or homemade device will produce the exact same erection as any other if the vacuum level is the same. Differences are peripheral-comfort of how the tube fits around your penis, how easy it is to get and keep the seal, how easy it is to keep your scrotal tissues from being sucked in, how easy it is to control the vacuum, etc. The erections are independent of the hardware, depending ONLY on the level of vacuum.
