Is a battery powered VED supposed to shut off when you get to a certain point?

I will pump for ~20 seconds or so and then the VED shuts off. I can't pump anymore. By this time the base of my penis does look like it's blocking any more air from getting in. I don't know if this means my girth is too big for the cylinder, or if this is expected with every VED like this.
Question: is a battery powered VED something you could theoretically pump for like an hour if you wanted to? Or is there supposed to be a cut off point where you pumped enough and can't pump anymore?

It may have a vacuum limiter. Are you pumping initially for 20 seconds non-stop? It's not the base of your penis that stops the air from getting in, it's the seal around the cylinder sealing to your public region around the base of your penis. No I wouldn't recommend pumping for an hour unless you're looking to damage your penile tissue. I think you may want to read some articles on beginner's VED use.

Yeah that makes sense about the seal around the cylinder. And yes I pump non-stop for those 20 seconds - am I not supposed to? And I get that you wouldn't recommend pumping for an hour, but the question is, would that be possible?
I don't know if a battery powered pump is supposed to shut itself off after a certain time. I want to make sure the device I have is the right one and works for me - so, can you pump pump pump a battery powered VED for as long as you wanted/could take it? Or is it stopping itself expected?
Googling beginner's guide vacuum erection device but not finding much help yet.

Some pumps do have vacuum limiters, that keeps you from damaging your penis with too much vacuum. Also pumping too long under vacuum can do the same, break blood vessels (petachia), create a water blister (donut) near the head, damage penile tissues, and cause loss if sensation, all things you don't want. Most all articles I've read, and pumping advice given, say to not go longer than 30 minutes of pumping. Being implanted I'm sure has it's own set of rules though so I would advise you to do a "search", underneath where you login, of "VED's and Implants", or "Pumping and Implants"?
2435, you are plenty big enough, and slow and steady pumping 'will' increase your girth some. You already have an implant so you have total control over the "time on target", enjoy it. In answer to your question, yes you can "theoretically" pump as long as you want, will it cause further damage, who knows, why take the chance? Yeah you can pump him up anytime, anywhere, but what if he's too sore (broken blood vessels, or a huge water blister, etc.) for sex?

You seem concerned about me pumping too much or for too long - I don't have an interest or ability in hurting myself. It's also not the question I'm asking or why I am asking it. I'm also a dude with brain damage so searching and googling isn't that effective for me.
Here's why I need to know this: A VED can get me back to my size or bigger. Thus, I need to know for sure if I have the right one. I need to know if mine fits. I need to know if it not working after 20 seconds means mine does not fit, and that another one could be better for me.
When you say 30 minutes of pumping - like, all at once? Pumping and holding the power button down and never letting go? That's what my device can't do. My theoretical question was about and only about if I have the right VED, or if how mine is stopping suction after ~20 seconds means I have the wrong VED for me. Finding the answer to that has been difficult.
I understand why you'd be cautious and wanting to warn someone about danger; please don't consider that. I need a pump that fits and works. I don't know if mine does. But I need to know that.

For your girth you need a cylinder 2" in diameter. Beyond that the best advice I feel I can give you is to talk with the doctor who did your implant, he knows your penis inside and out, he can tell you whether you should use a VED at all, and how much/how long if he says you can.

Mine has both an electric and manual pump.My electric has to be turned off.The golden rule if you don’t have a gauge is never pump till it hurts!

My doctor told me a VED "wouldn't do me any good." But I realized it wouldn't do me any bad either, so I decided to get one. There is no chance he gives me advice on which product to use either, so asking my doctor who knows my dick "inside and out" would not help. So I asked others with experience. I have received PMs encouraging me to get one.
My research very clearly says VED treatment after implant is very effective, regardless of my doctor not being in favor of VED use here.
All I want to know is if other people have experienced this when their VED shuts off. The conversation about this, and dick size, is not "frank" here at all, and I don't understand why it isn't. A bunch of overly-cautious old people or something.
I'm not gonna break my dick. I'm gonna find one that fits and I will use it effectively for the purpose with which it was made. I want other people to share their experiences with using these devices.

You've clearly made a series of bad decisions in your life so maybe listening to overly cautious old guys is what you should be doing. You have an 8" dick and are worried about regaining the 3/4" you lost? That's pathetic dude....
Since you claim to be Dain Bramaged and unable to use Google search go over to PEGYM. Those guys are all about dick size.
