New user seeking advice on using pump

I've recently purchased an encore deluxe pump to address some issues I have with getting and sustaining an erection. ED drugs are not an option for me due to adverse side effects.
I've seen some discussions and read how to use and viewed the dvd that comes with the unit however, I'm a bit unclear as to using lube
with the device. The dvd only mentions lubing the cone prior to putting the constriction ring on. My questions are:
Should I lube both my penis and the inside of the cylinder prior to pumping?
Should I use a separate water-based lube as opposed to the lube that the unit comes with?
The dvd doesn't mention releasing the vacuum prior to removal but that when you use the ring
to twist the constriction ring off that the vacuum is broken at that point.
I plan on practicing for a couple weeks to get use to it before I actually use it prior to intercourse.
As for that my wife and I have discussed the logistics but i think it will depend upon how long it takes
to get erect using the pump. If not too long we think doing foreplay first getting her to orgasm or close
to it and then bringing out the pump might be a good start. Doing it that way might minimize the amount
of time my penis is constricted.
Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

If you have better luck doing this it is fine. I find a little water-based lube on my penis prior
to pumping helps it "slide" through the cylinder.

I assume you mean for lubing your penis and cylinder? If what you have works then it's good.
I only use a dab of water-based lube to facilitate pumping because for intercourse we use a silicon lube like
penchant.
...when you use the ring
to twist the constriction ring off that the vacuum is broken at that point.
I find that after the ring(s) are applied I have to release the vacuum with the button. Sometimes I have to remove
the pump head to entirely release the cylinder.
...how long it takes to get erect using the pump.
The more I used the pump the better I got at achieving an erection in a short time.Maybe your wife could
use a vibrator while you are pumping to erection. If she is unfamiliar with them she could "practice" with it in privacy
while you are learning your pump.
It sounds like you are lucky enough to have a loving spouse who is willing to experiment to achieve good sex with you.

Cyclist,
Do like I do .... have your wife being a Cheerleader while you are pumping up saying GO GO GO! Ooohing and aahhing and tapping on the tube and admiring its size and playing with your balls. Don't forget to have someone holding them securely -- either you or her, slightly stretching your balls/sack the WHOLE TIME PUMPING. They WILL get sucked in if you don't -- not a fun experience.

Thanks for the advice.
So, I've tried it a couple of times now and here is what I'm experiencing using the Encore Deluxe battery operated pump.
I've lubed up really well including the inside of the constriction ring. I started with a #7 the first time but today
used the #6 as I felt the #7 wasn't holding the erection very well as it seemed after a few minutes I was getting limp.
The # 6 was better but I may try the #5 next to see how that feels.
Side question: If using say a #5 or #6 Encore ring would the appropriate Osbon ring be the medium standard tension?
As for pumping up I've been doing the following:
Pump/stop briefly/pump some more until it starts to feel a bit uncomfortable. This is taking probably about a minute or so.
Being that it seems I'm getting to what I believe is full erection fairly quickly and seeing where some folks take longer than that
I'm wondering if I'm rushing it and should I slow down? Maybe pump a little, stop for a bit, pump some more, etc?
Seems like I'm reaching my pre-length and girth (actually a bit longer by about 1/2" and bigger girth) when I had used
viagra in the past.
I've had no trouble with getting the constriction rings on and off. I just make sure I'm well lubed before trying to get them off.
Thanks again for the advice

The rings that come with the Encore are pretty crappy. Others here feel Osbon rings are the best available.
While you are waiting for new rings try 2 rings at once.

Thanks. I was considering the Osbon ring medium standard tension. I've read one post regarding the process conditioning the penis by stretching and holding for 1 min, release, then pump again and hold for 5 min., release and then do it again and hold for 10 min. all without using a ring. I may go back and try this for the next couple of weeks before going back to trying the rings. Just want to ensure I'm doing this correctly.

There are several different protocols for using a VED therapeutically. All correct. Some intended for suze restoration after long term abs3nce of erections, some for oxygenation of tissues, some for restoration/maintenance of elasticity. None that I know of are mutually exclusive, so there really is no 100% wrong way, either.
Don't overdo the vacuum, thongh. Edema seems to be the first ill effect, but is reversible with discontinuation for a few days. However, it is possible to do permanent damage if you go 5oo dar. Just use common sense.
Good luck

Thanks. I use it primarily to get and sustain an erection. I have difficulty getting and staying hard. Use of ED drugs is not a great option due to the side effects. I'm not looking to get or extend the length of my penis. My main goal is to use it to get hard enough to facilitate intercourse. I just want to make sure I'm not rushing this by pumping too quickly as I've read a number of posts where it looks like it's a slower process of pump a little, wait, pump a little more until some point is reached.

t's a slower process of pump a little, wait, pump a little more until some point is reached.
It is best to go slow, especially at first.
Several things I noticed after daily use:
1. At first, my erect, ring-restricted penis was cool to the touch. That is no longer the case.
2. I started getting morning wood again.
3. Only takes a couple of minutes to be fully erect and ready.

Thanks for the advice. Used it last night and everything went very well. Both myself and the wife came away happy. I did lose some of the erection so I may try one ring size smaller. Also, I still think the standard size tube that comes with the Encore deluxe might be a bit small in diameter especially closer to the base but I'm going to give it some more time before I think about the larger tube since the ring ejector sleeve doesn't work with the larger tube. Not sure why they don't make that tube with a ring ejector. Anyway, the help on this forum has been greatly appreciate.
