Passing Airport security with Trimix

Hi All,

I did my first international trip with Trimix and I had it in a case with an ice pack that was a lot bigger than the 3.2oz allowed by TSA. I put it in a bin alone with the zip lock bag that contained all my toiletries. And it went through with no questions.

This happen going and returning. Was I lucky? I expected that they will see the big ice pack and would get question or search.

Any other of you guys can share your experience of going through airport security with trimix? edex? or anything else that requires ice and syringes?

I have have taken Timix with me on a trip, but i have a freind who is a diabetic who takes insulin and never has trouble. Hw does declare it. You may want to look on the TSA website for guidance

I have gone through airport security with both Edex and Trimix. Never a problem. Edex was in the box, so it was obvious that it was a prescription. Trimix in a zip lock bag of ice. No problem.

did you call TSA for an inspection and they saw the bag of ice, or did you just put it through the x ray machine?

The first time I called TSA agent and request an inspection and explained why, but the guy without really paying attention to the reason, discourage me and ask me to put everything in the bin. And it passed through without any inspection.

Im curious to see if I was lucky or if somebody will the bag of ice through the x=ray as a larger than authorized volume of a fluid. I dont want to get in trouble. I do have the trimix propertly labeled, and a letter from the doctor which so far have not had to show to anybody.

I am a diabetic. Though I do not fly often, I do visit several diabetes forums. There are members on these forums who travel a lot with their insulin and syringes in refrigerated packs. They advise that they have never had a problem. However, they recommend that you cary a copy of the prescription with you just in case.

I simply let it go through with my carry on. However, If the agent had inspected it, the prescription is written on the bottle. I have since purchased one of the small insulin ice packs. I have yet to use it, however vacation in coming up and I will be giving it a try.

So you cannot go through with a bottle of water but ok to go through with a zip lock with ice?

Wonder if they assume that the ice is for medication or if the x-ray does not detect the ice in the carry on.

I've just returned from a trip that took in Singapore, Vietnam, China and Malaysia which included a cruise where all baggage was X rayed, I had syringes, Cialis and a bottle of fluid in a Frio wallet with some medication my wife requires. The fluid was in my wife's carry on and the syringes etc were in checked luggage. I never had a query at any stage. Last year we went to Malaysia, France, Spain, France and Malaysia again with no problems.

I'm not sure whether Customs staff are sensitive to such things in the baggage of "senior citizens" or not but certainly you rarely hear of what could be very embarrassing encounters with customs officials.

Just read your signature and you been injecting for 15 years. That is very encouraging that it still works for you. Have you experience any scarring or bruises throughout all those years? Have you had to increase the dosage or switch to a more concentrated formula?

I just begun and im some how young to the average of folks here. Im 43, and was wondering if I should be enjoying every bit of it as it were my last year or if there more to come. The oral medication stop serving me well after 10 years, and was hoping trimix did not follow the trend.

I have traveled numerous times with Trimix....here in Canada ours is mixed by the pharmacy and in a small bottle which I put in a small plastic pill bottle....I put ice at the bottom of a thermos bottle, then in the plastic bottle and cap same. I put in my packed luggage....have never had a question in customs!
