Painful erection with Edex
Painful erection with Edex
So I successfully self injected 10mcg of Edex for the first time today as a test. The good news is that I had a really strong erection for about 1 hour and am quite happy about that. However the erection was painful. It was like a numbing pain that pretty much lasted the duration of my erection. The pain was fairly intense. I don't think I can even ejaculate under such circumstances. Has anyone experienced something like this? I guess I should probably switch to Trimix?

Re: Painful erection with Edex
Some guys can never tolerate alprostadil (Edex). However, pain from the drug is not unusual during early use and or from using more of the drug than necessary. Many guys who initially have alprostadil pain discover that with continued use the pain moderates or disappears altogether. That was my experience. I also discovered that if I use more of the drug than necessary I will get some pain from the drug. I've since learned what dose's work for me and I don't use more than that. As a result I no longer experience alprostadil pain and haven't for years.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: Painful erection with Edex
So if I inject a smaller dose of Edex, that might lessen the pain but that would also lessen the length of time of the erection? Also would I experience a similar pain with Trimix? When I was injected with Trimix at the doctor's office, I did not experience the same level of pain. But the erection was also not as strong.

You'll get a stronger erection with less pain with Trimix, however the tradeoff is that Trimix is more likely to damage your penis and create scar tissue inside it, and can even give you a curve or shortening from Peyronie's disease.

Re: Painful erection with Edex
The pain is likely from the prostaglandin. Some of us (me included) get ache from prostaglandins.
Two options occur to me:
Try a smaller dose and see if you get a firm erection without the ache.
Try BiMix. It contains papaverine and phentolamine. Others have suggested TriMix which is Papaverine, phentolamine, AND prostaglandins. Try BiMix first as it seems that the problem may be the prostaglandins. Don’t switch to another med with prostaglandins in it. Try BiMix first.

I'm not a medical professional of any kind. Anything I post is based on my own experiences, at best and at worst is based on hallucinations or delusions. Remember, internet forum advice is likely worth what you paid for it, or worse. Always ask your doctor and follow his/her advice.
Using less Edex may well lessen or resolve the pain. You're looking for that sweet spot between no pain and optimal erection. Yes, less Edex, the alprostadil (AKA prostaglandin, PGE-1) will lessen the duration and possibly the firmness of the erection but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, depending on your response to the drug. I and others supplement the injection with a cock ring of some sort. I use novelty silicone cock rings that can be fairly easily removed even while erect. This allows me to use less of the drug. Others also use one of the pills but you need to be very familiar with your reactions to the drugs before you experiment with such combinations. Remember, in many guys the pain reaction to alprostadil lessens or completely resolves itself with continued use. Give it some trials and time.
Only time and experimentation will tell if you tolerate tri-mix and it's alprostadil component. There are many tri-mix formulations with many different percentages of alprostadil. For many guys some trial and error are necessary before the correct formula and dose is found. Don't get anxious or frustrated too easily and try to rush the process. The alprostadil is generally considered the ingredient most responsible for erection hardness. As I previously mentioned, you will want to discover the ideal compromise between erection quality and discomfort and that can change. If your doctors office tri-mix injection test had been strong enough to achieve an erection equal to what you achieved with the Edex you may also have had pain but that's an unknown at this point. Sometimes finding the correct injection mix and dose that works best for you may seem more akin to alchemy than medical science, whether it ends up being Edex or Caverject, a compounded Mono-mix, Bi-mix, Tri-mix a quad-mix or even a Penta-mix. It may take some time.
Also please note that AFAIK alprostadil mono-mix, in the form of Edex or Caverject are still the only FDA approved drugs for injection erections. Additionally, I believe the alprostadil is still considered the effective drug least likely to cause dick damage, although none are risk free.
I again suggest you experiment with adding novelty cock rings to the mix. There are many forum entries on the subject, admittedly quite a few are mine.

Re: Painful erection with Edex
Yeah I personally had really bad pain at the start. Now the pain is much much less. I think the more you inject the more tolerance you build or something. Don’t really think about it anymore.

Re: Painful erection with Edex
Thanks again guys for all the advice. There quite a few things to consider here but it seems like the prudent thing to do for now is to continue testing with Edex and to try and find that sweet spot as bldoink mentioned.
