Trimix using question
Trimix using question
A few months ago the VA prescribed and sent me some Edex 20mcl units. As I posted previously,I tried it per their instructions. First 5mcl, then 10, then 15, and finally the full 20. Nothing worked. I went back to the Urologist and he decided for me to use Trimix. The beaucracy lost the script and I didn't know it. Finally, after much runaround , they were to send it, but since it was a mix it went to a outside pharmacy. During this time there were major problems on the east coast with infections due to some not up to standard compounding facilities. To make it short I finally got my Trimix ( 5ml.-10mcg//30mg//1mg) and a pkg. of 31g.- 5/16" syringes. Edex used 1/2" syringes. It's been so long that I don't remember if the Uro told me to start with 10 units or 30. The major disadvantage with the VA is their Doctors are constantly changing so you never know who you'll get when you go there. I thought maybe someone with experience can tell me how high to start with (having had no luck with Edex) and also will the shorter needle work?

Re: Trimix using question
Since 20 units of Edex had little effect, I would suggest starting at 25 units and increasing at 5 unit increments if the 25 unit test does not have satisfactory results. My Uro started me with 30 units of Trimix and I subsequently had to increase it up to 45 units before finding the right dosage. However, I am now satisfied with 20 units.

Romasa,
I have used Trimix for over a year now. Your needle size is very thin and short. Because of the 31g, the needle may bend as you puncture the vial to draw out the fluid, and the same can happen upon injection. The length might be problemactic as well.....just be sure to 'push' the needle deeper until you feel the second pinch as the needle goes into the corpus cavernosum (the first pinch being as you puncture the skin of the penis).
If you live in a state where you can buy syringes without a script, I would buy a pack of 29g 1/2 inch syringes. That's the size I use. Personally, I have tried the 31g and the bending comes from personal experience. By way of reference, my uro recommends using a 27g needle.
As for dosage, everyone is different. From personal experience, my uro started me off at .20cc. Over time, I've had to titrate up to .3 - .4 with a new batch as the original dosage has lost its effectiveness, and I've had to go up to .50cc (depending on how long the mix has been in the fridge). Your VA experience is disappointing, but even with the revolving door with the docs there, you should have rec'd dosing instructions.

Romasa,
If I am not mistaken, you are a pretty lucky VAdude to have gotten Trimix out of the VA at all. I had always heard that they never, ever, prescribed non-FDA approved meds like Trimix and also to use a compounding facility? You must have had all the stars aligned just right to get that order to go thru. Well, maybe some VA bureaucrat will catch up to you eventually and snatch it away, so better stockpile as much as you can in the freezer for the future (assuming it works).
I use the 31g needles. Yes that are definitely more fragile and bendable. I just never JAB em into anything - always slow and excruciatingly deliberate. Never had a problem in using hundreds of them and they sure are fine and almost painless.

Actually, Trimix is FDA approved.
A while back, I went to the VA clinic to see if I could save on my ED meds. At the time I was using 100 mg of Viagra. The VA doc wrote a prescription for 10 mg Lavitra and a pill cutter to halve them. In order to get any Viagra, I needed to make an appointment with a VA urologist at a VA hospital. I decided to stick with my 18 pills every 75 days for $80 as authorized by my prescription plan.

Re: Trimix using question
dt:
Hmmm. Well each individual ingredient might have some FDA approval, but the mixture of all three is certainly not approved. No one ever spent the money to perform the necessary testing and I believe that almost any custom prepared medication (done by compounding) would never get approval anyways so no one even tries to get approval. ( and it would cost a fortune and would not be covered by a unique patent, so again no one would ever bother).
I doublechecked by googling Trimix and FDA approvals and they all say the same thing. Ingredients yes, compounding for erectile dysfunction therapies -- No.
But then that is just The Internet talking. Maybe got to dig deeper to Primary Sources -- like the FDA databases?
