New user and initial dose
New user and initial dose
Greetings all. My post is similar to others regarding dose. My urologist just prescribed me 5 units of trimix. I asked him for a higher dose (10 -15) but he refused. My argument was I don't want to come back several times (e.g., 5,10, 15, 20 etc) that may potentially take months before I find the right dose. He did not want to consider my views. I understand there will be a trial period, I just don't want to begin at the lowest dose. Anyway, I'm about to look for another doctor but what do you guys think?

First off it's important to understand the difference between the strength of a trimix prescription, and how many "units" you inject. The "units" are just how much liquid you draw up into a given syringe (the measuring numbers on the side of the syringe are the units, like degrees on a thermometer). You can inject a small number of units (small draw of liquid into syringe) or a large number of units (syringe 100% full). However your doc can also prescribe you a stronger mix of trimix, which makes a given number of "units" stronger.

What wolfpacker said.
Try to have a little patience. You always want to start out weak. And you didn't say what your mix was just the starting injection volume. 5 units of one mix can easily equal 20, 30 or 40 units of another. Your first test dose will be to establish a baseline. Things can move quickly from there.

Thanks to the both of you for teaching me about trimex! My urologist did not say anything to me about strength, units, type of mix, or even the needle size etc. After years of on and off (more of off) success with ED pills, disappointment interludes, I'm very impatient. Anyway, I feel better now starting this journey!
Thanks, Tony.
Thanks, Tony.

My uro didn’t say much either. I thought he was going to show me how to inject. He did that by injecting me and then sending me home. I just thank god the wife was home and had one great time. He did start me out high. I had to dial it down on my own to see what works that won’t give me a 4 hour erection. Although I didn’t mind that first night.

Welcome to the forum.
I'm glad you eventually got it figured out. I'm surprised more Uros aren't more up on this stuff.

So, being anxious to have injections work for me, I then tried 10 units one evening after she went to bed... ended up in the ER again!!!! Same night time staff (now that's embarrassing, but the PA was pretty . Changed Uro and injected 5 units in his office and, guess what, 5 units was my magic number. Moral of the story, don't start high like my Uro did, start low and work your way up!!
Same story. We must have the same URO. UROs should frequent this forum. My first injection was a 40 units as well. And I too, ended up in ER. Luckily, I waited long enough for my wood to soften when a bed became available. I avoided the traumatic draining.
Now, I am ok with 5 units ( although erection still last 3+ hours) I have some Sudafed but squatting seems like a good remedy with beneficial side effect).
Please start low and go up. Be patient. It is good when it works but priapism is traumatizing.
