Scarring Risk....The Truth

Postby Boston33333 » Sun Aug 11, 2013 7:48 pm

So I am 29 and just started injecting since May after using pills or nothing for years (had vascular surgery when I was 19 to fix a blocked artery). 10 mg of levitra still works, but not as reliable as it was. So what's the truth about scarring? I'm comfortable with the injections and I use around 6 units of a 15/0.5 mix of bimix and it works great. My Uro from the BU Center of Sexual Medicine says he has patients doing them for decades and he says the overwhelming majority don't get scarring or any negative side effects. Thoughts? I do hope for me this is temporary as I still get erections occasionally with no meds. Any long term injection users here?

I've been using various forms of injections for over fifteen years and have no evidence of scarring.
Healthy 70yo used injectibles for 20 odd years, Alprostadil, Caverject and now a variation of bimix.

Lex MC how often do you inject? My uro said I can do 3 to 4 times a week. I'm using levitra on off days. 10 mg has become increasingly unreliable. Also have you had to increase the dosage over the years? Do you use any pills as well?

In times past I was told 3 times weekly maximum but the fluid I'm on now there's no restriction. I was simply told to use it as often as I liked as long as there's no discomfort. I changed from Caverject because I was waking up an hour or two after ejaculation with a painful erection that nothing seemed to get rid of, I tried Sudafed, exercise, cold towels etc but it seemed to make no difference. Anyone who's ever had a painful hardon will tell you it's no fun! I never timed it but I suspect it only lasted 30 - 45 minutes. Generally I've always used around 10 units and haven't found the need to change the dose.

I have used pills over the years but they were expensive for the local product and of questionable effectiveness. These days I buy Generic Cialis from India, more for their psychological benefit than anything else. I wake up with an erection, I can get an erection with porn or when masturbating but not in a sexual situation which is why I use the injections.

I've just come back from a South Pacific cruise where I injected nine nights out of eleven with no ill effects of any sort (Unless you count the night when after a few too many wines with dinner I managed to stuff it up completely and miss the sweet spot altogether):-((

Injections in my experience are a very individual thing, you have to find out what works best for you, websites such as this are an excellent source of information from people who've also been there and done that! I'm not sure of the products in the States but I found from personal experience that the up side of Caverject and other fluids containing Alprostadil apart from the obvious is that they're unaffected by alcohol consumption, it still works, whereas the stuff I'm on now becomes ineffective with higher alcohol use ( A couple of beers, a couple of wines and half a bottle of champagne last NYE meant there definitely weren't any fireworks, well not in the bedroom at least! I asked my Uro about it and his advice was to keep some Caverject handy if you intend to have a big night! Fortunately I'm not a heavy drinker.

One other thing I've learned over the years, at least in my experience is to ignore the use by dates on fluid, I've used fluid that was months out of date with no problems, my current batch expired in April and still works fine. Obviously common sense is required with storage etc but I think all of the advice is more about protecting the supplier from law suits than concern for the patient.

Hope that helps, happy to answer any other questions you might have!

Thanks for the response. I feel a little better about injections as an option for now.

Hi lexmc1945,
How frequently have you been injecting in practice over those 20 years? It would be interesting to know how often you’ve actually injected rather than what your doctor recommended (The standard urologist recommendations are easy to find elsewhere).
Thanks!

You just replied to a 9 year old thread. I haven't noticed that member around lately so it's doubtful he'll respond.

I've been injecting alprostadil mono-mix for 10 years about 3 times a week. I have no noticeable scaring or fibrosis.
R.R.P 2011 Mayo Jacksonville, Dr. M. Wehle. Not nerve sparing. C in margins. Radiation 2023, V.E.D, Viagra and PGE-1 (80mcg/ml) injections @ 8 - 14 units. Originally Edex20, then compounded PGE due to cost. Inject. 12 yrs. It works. Treasure coast of FL.

Thank you! I’m not counting on a response but I noticed he was active here last year so I thought he might still see it at some point.

I also believe scaring is an individual thing. I’ve been injecting 14 months at least 2 times a week and add 10-12 weeks of 3 times. Noticed a tiny ball about half the size of a bb, uro felt it and said it’s a small scar from injecting. Also noticed several times on the other side it feels like I’m injecting they a piece of sand paper… also scar tissue. Maybe I’m just more prone to scaring than others..beginning implant journey asap this year. Have had ok results with injections.. started with 5 units and am now at 22-24 units. Will likely go to a stronger dose soon… and on to implant sooner than later.
59 years old ED started mid 40s pills failed after 10 years. Injections works but diminishing results with pain. Implanted 5-22 Baylor,Scott, and White Dallas.Dr Michael Wierschem, infrapubic Coloplast 20cm and 1cm RTE. Going strong and loving it!
