Med viscosity& needle gauge

Hello.

I have just begun injection therapy & was provided 27 G x 1/2 " needles from the compounding pharmacy. When I went in to refill I inquired about an alternate size & was told the 27 G was selected for use based on viscosity of the med I'm injecting ( Prost 20mcg) . I would still prefer a 30 or 31 G needle. Can anyone enlighten me on this matter?

I have read some bad stories about the smaller needle, like it is easy to bend and possibly break. Last thing I want to do is have to go to the hospital to have a broken needle removed from my dick. Smaller needles also mean it takes longer to inject the meds.

Prost is another name for prostaglandin (PGE1), one of the components in Trimix. Accordingly, I do not understand why Prost can not easily pass through a 30g needle on its own if can when mixed with other compounds.

I have used both 27g and 30g needles and I can definitely feel the difference.

Before I started injecting I thought the same thing: "Holy crap, what if I break a needle off in my dick?"

I dispose of my syringes by just throwing them in the trash, but first I break the needle off with a pair of pliers (30g x 1/2). And I was comforted by the fact that you have to bend it back and forth, 90 degrees either way, several times to snap it off. I did bend one in my dick a couple of weeks ago and I was a bit alarmed as withdrew it, then remembered how flexible they are.

Ive been using 30 for a long time, i also use it for insulin. works great

Viscosity huh? That's a new one -- have never heard before.

I suppose if your were injecting Maple Syrup into your dick it would make a difference which guage needle to use -- but I kinda doubt PGE-1 solution is any more viscous than pure water!

I have used 30 gauge needles almost from the beginning (my doc wanted me to use 27g), and I definitely feel the difference. Broken needles are probably a thing of long ago when the metal alloys were not as pliable. I've never broken a needle, and even when I want to break them prior to disposal, I have to repeatedly bend back and forth before they break from the hub.

Given what I read about needle gauge size and all I don't have concerns about the comfort and it seems thats marginal against risk of bending / missed mark/ breakage so for me its now more about scar tissue . I read when injecting larger doses ( like mine - .6 +) one should inject slowly over the course of a minute. Perhaps a smaller gauge with less fluid outflow would make sense against other risks for that reason.

For those who, like me, thought that the needle looked like a 10-penny nail when I first contemplated using it . . . here's a link to a needle gauge chart I found online.

It tells me that the 27 gauge I use is only six/thousandths of inch thicker than the 31 gauge needles often mentioned in posts to this site. My Willy is as sensitive and smart as the next guy's, but I don't think he's smart enough to detect a .006 difference.
