I read of many people who after using viagra for many years, it stops working ok, but then they jump to the implant. I understand wanting to have something that always works and no worries or any work except inflation, but I read of many who say "I didn't want to mess with injections" and decided to just go straight for the implant.
The implant is very expensive and only a few insurances cover it. They also want you to either have medicare (65 and up) or employment insurance which not everyone may have. Most surgeons do not take marketplace insurance for example.
Blue cross seems to be one of the most approved insurances though.
If you are in your 60s, it makes, especially if you have medicare, but I read of guys in their 30s who get the implant. This means you will need at least 3 revisions in your lifetime, assuming it lasts the 15 years, chances are it may not.
Let's say you get the implant at 35, then you'll need a revision at 50 years, then another one at 65, another one at 80. Assuming it lasts 15 years, it may not even last 10 years each time, or even 5 years, if something goes wrong.
Every revision is more difficult to do and comes with possible size loss as well and higher risk for infection.
The implant would be a great choice for anyone if it lasted a lifetime like other silicone implants without parts.
Why not use injections until they stop working, especially if you are single and not married.
I can understand a married guy wanting the implant, so he can fulfill his duties, but a young single guy who is in a dating game?
I'd love to have the implant if it lasted forever, but then I think, I'm 39, not married, no girlfriend for many years. I only have sex once a month at best
My sex life is not enough to warrant an implant, is just enough to keep me sane and not go crazy.
Maybe if I was married, it would make sense, but injections can help there as well
I understand there are some cases where not even injections do nothing and the implant is a must even if the guy is young, but those cases are rare
Why do people jump so soon to implant?
Re: Why do people jump so soon to implant?
I 100% agree with you. I personally use injections as a single man and they are amazing. I don't understand why a single man would want to get an implant, specially if they're young.

Well, it's basically because everyone is different.
Why do you seem to resent someone having a procedure that they want and can afford?

Re: Why do people jump so soon to implant?
Rufian, some of the things you mention are not true. A revision doesn't mean lost size, more risk of infection or a tougher surgery. Many guys report a revision is much easier to recover from than the original surgery, and some gain size.
Thinking as a single guy on the dating scene am I going to carry a needle with me all the time in case I get lucky? That alone would make my case for skipping injections.

The convienece factor seems like the main reason the majority of the time. The injections become a hassle to some and they have the money so they go for the implant.
Re: Why do people jump so soon to implant?
I have never understood why so many implant guys feel the need to come on the Injections sub-forum and proselytize for implants. The Implants sub-forum is the most active sub-forum on this site. It's there for all to see and I suspect most every site visitor checks it out. They will certainly go there if they have any interest in an implant. I'm guessing the implant guys feel the need to convince others to get implants to justify their own irreversible decision.
I don't care what method an ED sufferer uses to resolve his ED issues. I hope their choice has the best outcome for them. Personally I think some decisions are hastily and foolishly made and perhaps at times helped along by a doctor who needs to make a payment on his boat or Mercedes. But it's not my job to tell grown men what's best for them. It's their life.
It's also the reason I generally stay off the Implants sub-forum. Guys interested in implants should be able to go there and find what information they're looking for without interference from me. I do hope they realize they're mostly (not always) getting biased responses there. I figure if they want to hear my injections advice they'll investigate the Injections sub-forum. Unfortunately, while there, they'll also get bombarded by implant proselytizers.
Why do so many skip trying other options? I'm not sure. I guess it's the frustration from dealing with ED and wanting a final, permanent fix, although there is no such thing. The closest to a permanent fix might be a malleable implant but it too has drawbacks. Plus I think there's no doubt some immaturity and/or mental issues playing a part in a fair number of cases.
All that said, if no other option will work for me, I'll consider an implant if I'm still healthy enough to make use of it. But I'm not there yet.

How did you conclude that? The literature makes it clear that this risk increases with more revisions, and so does my urologist

Re: Why do people jump so soon to implant?
The problem with implants
- extremely expensive between 21-35k depending on doctor. This price absurd especially when the implant and its parts are nothing special. You’re paying for the doctors yatch and lavish lifestyle
- most insurances will not cover it and the ones that do, you may still have to pay thousands. The only time where it makes perfect sense is if you are 65+ and have medicare. Its literally free.
- They claim the implant can last up to 15 years. Even that is not good enough, for the cost and trouble it should last 30 if not a lifetime.
- You have no control on whether the implant will fail prematurely or last the 15 year advertised lifespan.
- If the implant fails, you will need to pay again unless medicare, in most cases the full amount, the surgeon is not going to not get paid. Youd have to take time off, preparation, waiting for insurance, etc
This only works again for men who are 65+ and retired and have all the time in the world
A 35 year old may need several revision throughout his lifetime.
Of course the surgeon would tell you that you don’t need to wait to exhaust all options, is a business and is not them who are having this irreversible procedure
In regards to dating and injections why not open up to the potential partner about your issue and make it known thats all it takes rather than being embarrassed and hide it?
If you are 30s it makes more sense to exhaust pills and injections until they completely stop working and maybe then when you have no way out well get the implant
Also we dont know what advances may happen in 20-30 years
If you are 30 you still got another 35 years before you 65 and retire for medicare
30-35 year is a long time and medicine could advance we dont know

Re: Why do people jump so soon to implant?
I can't say I jumped from Viagra (Cialis) to an implant. I tried to use Cialis for several years after it stopped working. Viagra gave me the sinus headaches and stuffiness. ED had a strong grip on me. After some time "off" for medical reasons, my wife said she wanted to have sex again. I tried pumping--"normal" pumps to keep my dick working and to preserve length and girth (8"x5.75") and a VED with constriction rings (radically NOT natural and very uncomfortable). I was probably too late with the pumping. I tried the shockwave treatments with no results whatsoever. I learned to satisfy her with my tongue. I tried injecting that stuff in my dick which remained mostly limp, but with a lot of burning. I tried a couple of strengths and amounts. After reading lots and lots of posts here, I finally decided to go for an implant. My wife hadn't given up on the idea of me screwing her again. We have enjoyed making love again. I should've done it many months before.

Seems like the ideal scenario for injections. They could likely last a lifetime at that frequency
