How RX’s Are Written and Filled

Postby brian188 » Tue Nov 26, 2024 12:49 pm

I’ve been using TriMix now for over a year, and I discovered that Compounding Pharmacies write and fill Rx’s in different ways. Very confusing when we talk about and compare injections here at FrankTalk.

I’ll talk about TriMix in particular.

The three ingredients in TriMix are Alprostadil, Papaverine, and Phentolamine. It is the order in which each ingredient is listed that can be confusing.

For example, I get my RX from Stanley Specialty and my prescription is 20/30/2. The ingredients are
20 mcg of Alprostadil, 30 mg of Papaverine, and 2 mg of Phentolamine.

However, when I was checking out other compounding pharmacies to compare prices I found some that would write that RX as 30/2/20 with Papaverine being the first ingredient, Phentolamine being the second ingredient, and Alprostadil being the last ingredient. The exact same RX but written differently.

It’s a good idea that when we talk about our RX’s and comparing results that we understand the order of the ingredients are listed in our own prescriptions.

Good talking with all you fellas.

The second example you gave seems to be the most common with Papaverine first and alprostadil (PGE1) last. The other variation that causes confusion is what volume of mix the ingredients are listed for. The easiest to understand and the most common are when they're written as per 1ml. Sometimes the vial will be labeled as per the volume of the vial, be it 2.5ml, 5ml or 10ml. When that is done it must be converted to "per 1ml" to discuss intelligently on the forum without being confusing.

Mine is 30/3/20. My NP suggested alphabetical order for the 3 ingredients:
1. Papaverine
2. Phentolamine
3. Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) (Alprostadil)

[Calling the 3rd ingredient "Alprostadil" messes with the formula. :) ]
Born 1954. Diabetes, hypertension and atherosclerosis. Sildenafil is iffy. Tri-Mix (30/3/20 Pap/Phen/PGE1) a godsend pending long-term efficacy. Daily Cialis. Tried LiESWT, Botox, PT-141, Eroxon, QST, DUS, Vertica, cabergoline, psychotherapy+hypnotherapy.
